The Bucknell men's soccer teams is back in action for the second of four consecutive home matches on Tuesday night at Emmitt Field against George Mason.

After opening the season 0-4 for the first time since 1966, Bucknell won its first match of the season 1-0 over Lafayette in the opening Patriot League match. Jack Lucas, who returned to the team from injury last Sunday, scored the match-winner in the 88th minute on a penalty in just his second game back.

Before Bucknell's goal late in the game, the Bison had previously gone nearly 300 minutes without a goal.

George Mason is 1-3-1 to begin the season and are coming off of a 3-2 loss to Davidson where the Wildcats scored the winner in the 65th minute. Although George Mason has just one win, they've faced some of the best competition in the nation. The Patriots opened the season against No. 13 Vermont, and earned a thrilling 3-3 draw against No. 15 Marshall.

The Patriot League has struggled to get results in non-conference action as all teams have combined for a 5-28-20 record out of conference. Army, Navy, Colgate, Lafayette and Loyola (Md.) all have a win, and no teams has multiple nonconference wins. Â

Last Time Out for the Bison
- Senior Jack Lucas delivered an 88th-minute penalty to lift the Bucknell men's soccer team to its first win of the season and a 1-0 start in the Patriot League on Saturday night at Emmitt Field.
- Bucknell looked strong on the attack with several great opportunities to score in the match. The Bison out-shot the Leopards 19-13. Despite 32 shots in the match, both teams combined for just six shots on goal. Bucknell's goal was their first tally since the second match against Pitt.
- Thomas Yerbury made two big saves to keep the match level including a brilliant stop in the 65th minute from point-blank range. Yerbury kept his first career clean sheet for the Orange and Blue.
- Bucknell put the pressure on late in the match looking for one final opportunity. Colin Findlay was playing in towards the touch line and the sophomore played a dangerous pass that reached Lucas towards the top of the 18. Lucas fired a shot that hit the hand of a Leopards defender and the Bison were awarded a penalty.
- Lucas passed his penalty kick right down the middle to beat Harrison Wolfrom, who made three saves in the match. Lucas' goal was his first of the season after he returned from injury last Sunday against Old Dominion.
- Drew Roskos also made his return last Sunday, and the junior forward was causing chaos among the Lafayette back line in the first 20 minutes of the match.
- Roskos gave the Bison its first opportunity just three minutes into the match. He beat his defender on the wing and played a great ball into a charging Lucas. Lucas fired his shot just over the cross bar.
- Roskos got involved again on another great opportunity, chipping a defender to send Nate Coughlin in on goal. Coughlin took a few touches before his shot was stopped by Wolfrom at point-blank range. Just two minutes later, Roskos made a great solo run into the box, but his shot was blocked.
- The Bison nearly scored just before the break through senior Jack Heintz. A ball was played into the box and Heintz darted on the opportunity. Heintz was first to the ball, but his shot tailed just wide of the net.
- Yerbury's biggest moment came in the 65th minute as Thomas Clark had the best opportunity on the match. A bouncing ball into Bucknell's defensive third got past the back line and sent Clark in on goal. Clark fired his shot to the near post, but Yerbury got low to make a huge save.
- Bucknell has played a fierce non-conference schedule early in the season. The Bison fell to two unbeaten opponents in Hofstra and Old Dominion. Hofstra in currently ranked 15th and ODU ranks 22nd. The Bison also played Pitt who is 3-1-1 this season.
- Bucknell is getting healthy again after missing key players through the first three matches. Lucas, Roskos and Bejarano played their first action of the season against ODU after all three of them missed the first three matches. Jakub Samelko also returned to the squad against Fordham.
- Roskos, Lucas and Samelko combined for 16 goals and four assists in 2025.
- The Bison have struggled to find goals early in the season with only three tallies in five games. The Bison rank sixth in shots and ninth in shots on target in the Patriot LEague
- Chayse Snyder, Cade Whitmire and Jack Lucas are responsible for Bucknell's three goals thus far. Â
- Junior forward Drew Roskos is the reigning Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, and he was voted as the 2026 Patriot League Preseason Forward of the Year. Senior Jack Lucas was voted as the Patriot League Preseason Defender of the Year.
- Roskos, Lucas and Jack Bejarano all returned last Sunday against ODU, and the three attacking-minded players were heavily involved against Lafayette. The three combined for 10 shots in the match and two shots on target.
- Colin Findlay and Viktor Permyashkin are both from central Pennsylvania. Permyashkin is a Lewisburg native, and becomes the first Lewisburg graduate to play for Bucknell. Findlay is from Selinsgrove, just 20 minutes south of Lewisburg. Findlay's mother, Chrissy, is a former Bucknell women's soccer coach, and his father, Jim, served as the head coach at Susquehanna University for 28 years. Chayse Snyder is from Mechanicsburg, just 90 minutes from Lewisburg.
- Bucknell has 19 returning players on the 2025 squad. Bucknell's freshman class includes six players: Hamish Riddell, Max Walsh, Marcelo Ojeda, Viktor Permyashkin, Chayse Snyder and Grant Brokaw. The Bison also brought in junior transfers, Colin Findlay and Jack Bejarano.
- Dave Brandt is Bucknell's 14th full-time head coach and just the third dating back to 1967. Brandt, who is now in his fifth season at Bucknell, has a remarkable career record of 375-122-56 in stints at Bucknell, Messiah, Navy, and Hope. Brandt won six Division III national championships at Messiah and led Navy to the 2013 Patriot League title and an NCAA Tournament first-round win. Â
- Bucknell got off to a hot start in 2025, but struggled to get results in conference play down the final stretch of the season. The Bison ultimately fell to Boston U. on the road 3-1 in the first round of the Patriot League tournament.
- Bucknell had a knack for comebacks last season as the Bison went 4-3-1 in matches they had trailed in during the regular season.
- The Bison also scored in the final 16 minutes in eight of its 18 matches, and they scored a goal in the final five minutes in five matches.
- Bucknell senior class in 2025 combined for eight goals and seven assists last season.
- The Bison ranked third in the Patriot League with 29 goals for and ranked second with 1.611 goals per game.
- The Bison also led the league with 232 shots and 6.33 shots on target per game.
- Defensively, the Bison ranked third in the league with eight clean sheets, and seven of those clean sheets came in Patriot League action.
- Jackson Sullivan, the older brother of Collin, was named the 2025 Patriot League Defender of the Year.
- Drew Roskos, now a junior, was named the 2025 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Season.
- George Mason is 1-3-1 to and 1-0 in the Atlantic 10 to begin the season. The Patriots have faced tough competition, playing against No. 13 Vermont, No. 15 Marshall and a strong West Virginia squad. The Patriots are also set to play Ohio State, who is currently ranked No. 3 in the country.
- The Patriots went 7-6-3 with a 4-2-2 record in the A10, falling to Davidson in the A10 quarterfinals.
- George Mason was briefly ranked last season when they met up with the Bison on their home turf. George Mason won the match 3-2 on a 90th-minute winner by James Eliuda.
- The Patriots have scored nine goals and conceded 11 goals to opponents this season. They averaged 2.0 goals per game in 16 matches in 2025.
- Kelly Janssen leads the team with three goals and six points despite starting in just one match. Janssen has averaged 40 minutes per match thus far and was also a top-scorer last season with five goals and one assist.
- Matias de Jesus and Jamie Godinho each have two goals and one assist. Godinho had one goal and three assist in 2025. James Eliuda and Quentin Clain each have a goal.
- John Balkey, Martim Sereno and Yannick Mambo all have two assists, and Sereno was the team's leading scorer last season with six goals and five assists.
- Angel Hernandez has played in all five matches as the goalkeeper with four starts. He has a .704 save percentage with 19 saves. Jack Desroches has played in two matches for 82 minutes and has seven saves with a .700 save percentage.
- George Mason leads the all time series 2-2-1 all time against the Bison. The Patriots have won each of the previous two matches.
- The bison won the very first matchup 1-0 in 2006 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
- Bucknell continues a four-match homestand as with another Patriot League matchup against Colgate on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Emmitt Field.
