Water Polo Posts 2-0 Sunday at the Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J.- Bucknell (3-5) rebounded with a 2-0 Sunday on its second day at the Princeton Invitational with a pair of wins over #20 St. Mary's and Iona. The Bison defeated St. Mary's 14-9 and Iona 16-13. The win over St. Mary's was Bucknell's first ranked win since beating Air Force in 2023.

St. Mary's Recap

Sean Tunnicliff led the Bison with four goals and Bucknell rallied from an early deficit to upset the ranked Gaels. The Bison gained revenge after losing earlier in the year to the Gaels.

St. Mary's bolted to a 2-0 lead before the Bison uncorked a 6-0 run. Tunnicliff started the rally with two goals and four other Bison added scores. Both teams scored two more goals for an 8-4 Bucknell halftime lead.

The Gaels tallied twice out of halftime but once again the Bison answered with a decisive run. A 3-0 stretch created separation. The teams traded goals for the final 14-9 score.

Iona Recap

Bucknell avoided any emotional letdown and defeated the Gaels with a balanced offensive attack. Tyler Hedblad and Tunnicliff both produced four goals to pace the Bison.

The Orange & Blue sprinted to a 4-1 lead, as part of a five-goal first period that saw different goal scorers.

Iona cut the deficit to 4-3 before the Bison sped ahead 9-4. The Gaels continued to keep it close, not allowing Bucknell to break free, with only a 9-6 halftime lead.

Both teams scored seven goals in the second half but the even exchange worked for the Bison and Bucknell pulled out a 16-13 win.
