LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior Ty Lagoni's two-run homer in the seventh inning gave the Bucknell baseball team a 5-4 lead, and the Bison held on for good with a 9-5 victory over Holy Cross in Game 2 of the Patriot League Championship Series at Depew Field at Marren Park on Tuesday afternoon. Bucknell and Holy Cross will play for the Patriot League Championship on Wednesday in a winner-takes-all Game 3 at Depew Field.
Down 4-3 in the seventh, Michel Trommer led off the inning with a single up the middle before Lagoni crushed one over the left field wall for his fifth home run of the season. The Bison rallied for two more runs in the inning and held on for good to close out a must-win game.
Lagoni was 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs as eight different Bison went for a hit in the ballgame. John Calabrese also had a multi-hit game, driving in a run in the fifth inning.
Brady Hoar went 4.2 innings on the mound with four runs allowed on seven hits. Acting head coach Jason Neitz went to the bullpen in the fifth to bring on Everett Garber who was excellent for 3.1 innings. Garber stranded the bases loaded in the fifth and stranded another at second base in the sixth before the Bison grabbed the lead.
Hadley Maxwell, the Patriot League saves leader, closed out the ninth in a four-run game. He induced a ground ball as the Bison turned a 6-4-3 double play to finish off the game.
