ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Bucknell baseball team dropped game one of a four-game series to Army 14-3 in seven innings at Doubleday Field on Friday afternoon.
Bucknell got off to a good start as Ty Lagoni hammered his fourth home run of the season to straightaway center field in the first inning. His two-run shot gave the Bison a 2-0 lead, but it was quickly answered by a three-run home run by William Parker in the bottom half.
Army held the lead the remainder of the way as Andrew Berg tossed a complete game. Berg's final line on the day was three runs on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
The Black Knights tagged the Bison for four more runs in the bottom of the second to take a 7-2 lead. The four runs came on two hits and four walks.
Michael Trommer delivered his team-leading eighth home run in the third inning to grab one back for the Bison. Garrett Mathias extended his on-base streak to 33 games with a double in the inning, but it was the last hit Berg allowed in the ballgame as the Bison had just two baserunners via a hit and an error over the final four innings.
Dante Pavone shut down the Black Knights with a scoreless third and fourth inning, but Army found its groove again with three runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to put the run rule in play.
Army's 14 runs came on 11 hits and seven walks. Parker had five RBIs in the game and Chris Barr drove in four runs.
Bucknell and Army return to Doubleday Field on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 1:05 p.m.
