Bucknell (20-14, 13-3 PL) leads the Patriot League standings by three games over Holy Cross (15-17, 10-6 PL) after Sunday's victory. Navy swept Lafayette and Army took 3-of-4 games from Lehigh and both sit at 9-7.
The Bison jumped out to a 9-0 lead after four innings to give starter Brady Hoar plenty of cushion on the mound. Hoar gave the Bison a quality start for the fourth time this season, allowing three runs over seven innings of work while matching his career-high of seven strikeouts.
Green went 2-for-4 at the plate in his first career start at shortstop. He notched his first career RBI in the second inning before mashing a three-run homer in the third. Michael Trommer hit his team-leading seventh homer of the season in the first inning.
The Bison had 16 hits in the game, led by a three-hit effort in the leadoff spot for Billy Fluharty. Green, Trommer, Lleyton Coupe and Andrew Swenson all had multi-hit games for the Bison. Ten different batters had a hit for the Bison. Garrett Mathias was the only player to not have a hit, but the freshman wore a pitch to extend his on-base streak to 32 games.
Trommer opened the game with a solo home run in the first inning of the ballgame. The senior slugger hit his seventh homer of the year 444 feet and 107 MPH off the bat.
The first three batters of the second inning reach base safely, including Green's first career RBI on a line-drive single to left field. Ryan Facinelli came home to score a second run on a throwing error. The Bison loaded up the bases, but could not cash in for more in the inning.
Zach Selfon and Michael Chiaravallo both singled to lead off the third inning. Green came back around with one out, and roped his homer over the left field wall to extend the Bison lead to 6-0. The rally continued as Swenson drew a walk and Fluharty singled. Ty Lagoni made it 7-0 with a single through the left side to score Swenson.
The Bison stayed hot with two more runs in the fourth. Coupe came into the game to pinch hit, hitting a triple to left field to score Chiaravallo who walked to lead off the inning. Swenson brought Coupe home later in the inning with a single to make it 9-0.
Simon Landry singled to lead off the fifth for Holy Cross, but Hoar worked a strikeout and Lagoni caught Landry stealing on the pitch. Hoar struck out another to end the fifth before the Crusaders tagged him for three runs on four hits in the sixth.
After the Crusaders cut into the Bison lead, Hoar shut down the seventh with a 1-2-3 inning to end his day on the mound.
Mathias added a 10th run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly to score Fluharty. The Crusaders got a run back off of Bryce Mitchell in the eighth, but the Bison tacked on two more in the bottom half on RBIs from Swenson and Fluharty.
Hadley Maxwell made an appearance for a second straight day in the ninth, tossing a scoreless inning to close out Bucknell's win.
Bucknell now hits the road for six consecutive road games. The Bison visit Villanova on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. before taking on Army in West Point for a four-game series beginning on Friday.
