Bucknell at a Glance
• March Matness starts for the Bison at the 122nd EIWA Championships, hosted by American on March 6-7. Bucknell looks to finish better than its fifth place slot in 2025.Â
• Intermat ranked 50% of the Orange & Blue lineup in the latest polls. Myles Takats (174) remained at #18 Noah Mulvaney (165) fell back one step to #21. Dillon Bechtold (197) rose to #25. Dylan Chappell (141) also increased from a spot from #29 to #28. Tyler Bienus (184) holds onto the #33 spot.Â
• Dylan Chappell (141) entered 2025-26 with 88 career wins and the fifth-year senior has won 17 matches this season. Chappell became the first Bison grappler to reach the 100-win milestone since Kurt Phipps (133) earned number 100 against No. 16 Anthony Noto (Lock Haven) on Jan. 30, 2025. His most recent win tied him for 11th in program history.Â
• Bucknell posted its third straight top 25 recruiting class, providing an even greater pool of talent for the program. The depth has been on display with the Bison taking nearly every ranked foe to the bitter end, routing Hofstra, LIU, and Morgan State, and performing well at the Navy Classic. At the Midlands Championships, the team finished third for its highest finish in program history at the competition.Â
• The Bison have needed every drop of depth with injuries and illness preventing the full lineup from competing together more than once.Â
• The final NCAA Top 33 Coaches Ranking were released on Feb. 26 and five Bison were included: Myles Takats (174) #17; Noah Mulvaney (165) #22; Dylan Chappell (141) #26; Dillon Bechtold (197) #27; Tyler Bienus (184) #33.Â
• Despite an unfavorable W-L record, Bucknell sits at 109-91 in matches during duals and has outscored opponents 425-332.Â
• Noah Mulvaney (165) is 23-6 in matches and a sparkling 17-3 in duals this season.
• Head coach Dan Wirnsberger is in his 21th year leading the program since its revival in 2005.Â
A Look Back at the Columbia/Bloomsburg Duals
• Columbia handled Bucknell in a 30-6 defeat. The Bison never gained any traction against a tenacious Lions' lineup.
• No. 29 Dylan Chappell picked up a ranked win with his 14-10 decision.Â
• No. 28 Dillon Bechtold (197) grabbed the other Bison victory in a narrow tiebreaker decision.Â
• The Orange & Blue rebounded the same day to vanquish I-80 Fight rival Bloomsburg 34-9.
• Bucknell trailed 9-0 after the opening two bouts before staging an epic rally.
• Vinnie D'Alessandro (141) jumpstarted the Bison charge with a pin.Â
• Riley Bower (149), No. 20 Noah Mulvaney (165), and Logan Shephard (285) added tech falls.Â
• No. 18 Myles Takats (174) earned a major decision to provide more bonus points.Â
• Three other Bison supplied decisions, as the Huskies were helpless against the sudden reversal of fortune.Â
EIWA Championships/Series History
• Lehigh is the only ranked team in the EIWA, slotting 25th.Â
• The Mountain Hawks are the reigning champions.Â
• Bucknell finished fifth at last year's EIWA Championships.Â
• Kurt Phipps (133) won the Bison's fifth individual EIWA Championships.
