Track & Field Journeys to Philly This Weekend for the Penn Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell track & field teams head to the City of Brotherly Love this weekend to participate in the highly competitive and prestigious Penn Classic. The Orange & Blue will send caches of its best athletes to the competition. Bucknell seeks to keep its momentum going after last weekend's meets and continue development for the upcoming Patriot League Indoor Championships.Â

Overview
- Bucknell finishes its indoor road schedule with the Penn Classic.Â
- The competition will be streamed on ESPN+.Â
- The Bison are sending abbreviated and specialized rosters to the Penn Classic.Â
- The participating teams are Bucknell, Columbia, George Mason, Georgetown, Hampton, Howard, James Madison, Maryland, Norfolk State, Penn, Pitt, Princeton, Villanova, and William & Mary.Â
- The event will be ticketed.Â
- The Bucknell men's team collected four wins at the Bison Challenge & Multi.Â
- Wade Shomper, the senior shot put star, started the victory train in his signature event. Shomper threw 55-11.25 in his final throw to steal the win away from Shippensburg's Gian Greggo, whose toss of 55-10.25, paced the field entering the finals.Â
- Jared Hess set a personal record in the triple jump. The junior jumper leaped 46-3.50 in his third attempt and the mark held up as the standard.Â
- Freshman Ethan Fianko has flashed in his first collegiate season and the rookie kept his debut season going strong with a win in the 400-meter dash. Fianko ran a season-best 49.89.Â
- Cooper Hollinger rounded out the Bison winners with his victory in the 3000-meter run. The freshman raced for a new personal record of 8:31.39.Â
- The women's team dominated the weekend, collecting 12 wins at the Bison Challenge & Multi and Penn State National Open.Â
- Alexandra Lea enjoyed a banner time running on PSU's track, finishing second in the 200-meter dash (24.49) and the 400-meter dash (55.33) to move into second place for the former and improve upon her third place for the latter in Bucknell history.Â
- Kailey Granger unlocked victory in the 5000-meter run at the PSU National Open. The junior registered a time of 17:16.75. She sat in third place for most of the race, moved up to first, fell back to third by the 4800 mark before rallying for gold.
- Shaelan McNally competed in the 3000-meter run and finished 23rd against rugged opposition at Penn State. The Bison sophomore's time of 9:47.20 moved her into eighth all-time in Bucknell history. The Orange & Blue now has a trio of active top ten runners in Kailey Granger (6th), McNally, and Caryn Rippey (4th).
- Madison Fowler won the shot put and weight throw at the Bison Challenge. The sophomore star moved into second all-time in the weight throw, tossing the instrument 61-7.75 feet.Â
- Piper Portacio broke into the Bucknell all-time top ten with her event-winning time of 25.42 in the 200-meter run at her home turf.
- Raygan Lust has already made her mark as a freshman phenom. The rookie added to her laurels with a win in the 400-meter dash at Gerhard Fieldhouse. She ran a swift 57.36. Lust paced an Orange & Blue contingent that dominated the event. Bucknell swept the first six places. Joining Lust were Piper Portacio in second (58.63), Madeline Sipe earned third (59.56), Jenna Wright slotted fourth (1:00.02), Alexa Goll grabbed fifth (1:00.16), and Abigail Michaelson rounded out the group at sixth (1:00.17).Â
