Four Women's Swimmers Named to All-Patriot League Teams

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Four members of the Bucknell women's swimming and diving team were named to the All-Patriot League Teams announced by the league office on Tuesday. Junior Kelly Byrne and sophomore Clara Renner were named to the First Team, and junior Sydney Dettmann and freshman Tori Castro were named to the Second Team.
The Bucknell women won four medals, set two school records and set 17 new top-10 times in school history in a third-place finish at the 2026 Patriot League Championships last week in Annapolis.
The swimmers and divers who place first in individual events at the Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championship automatically qualify for the All-League first team, while runner-up finishers are guaranteed at least a second-team spot. Both teams are completed based on overall points compiled during the championship.
Byrne was the fifth-highest point-scorer with 85 points at the championships and won Bucknell's first gold medal in the 400 individual medley She swam a personal-best 4:16.24 that ranks second in Bucknell history. Byrne crushed her preliminary time by nearly seven seconds, winning the event by 1.75 seconds. She became the second straight Bison to win gold in the event after Renner won in 2025.
Byrne later took the bronze medal in the 1650 freestyle. She posted a time of 16:52.36 which now ranks eighth in program history. She knocked almost eight seconds off of her personal record which she sat at the Navy Invitational earlier this season.
The junior also swam in the 500 freestyle, where she set the fifth-fastest time in school history with a time of 4:51.87. Byrne took off almost four second off of her time in the preliminaries for a fourth-place finish in the A-Final. She was just over half-of-a-second off of another medal.
Renner was the eighth-highest scorer with 81 points, and her gold medal swim came in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:58.63. Renner was an All-Patriot League First Team selection last year and was the 2025 Rookie of the Meet.
Bucknell's 800 freestyle relay team took bronze on the first night, and Renner swam the first leg as the Bison swam a time of 7:19.33. Renner also competed in the A-Final of the 500 freestyle and the 400 individual medley.
Dettmann was also involved in the relay, and the junior swam the final leg of the event. Dettmann swam in two A-Finals, taking eighth in the 200 freestyle and seventh in the 200 butterfly. She also competed in the B-Final of the 500 freestyle, collecting 59 points for the Bison throughout the meet.
Castro had a strong debut at the Patriot League Championships for the Bison as the freshman scored 64 points for the Bison. She set three top-10 times including a school record and also had a hand in Bucknell's record-breaking 200 freestyle relay time. Â Â
Castro opened her week with a fifth-place finish in the A-Final of the 50 freestyle where she swam the second-fastest time in school history at 23.16. Castro then broke the school record in the 100 butterfly where she posted a time of 54.40. she later swam in the A-final of the 100 free where she took eighth with a time of 51.31. Her time of 50.54 in the preliminaries is the third-fastest time in school history.
The freshman swam the first leg of Bucknell's 200 freestyle relay team that broke the school record with a time of 1:32.09. She also competed in the 400 medley relay that set the fifth-fastest time in school history and the 400 freestyle relay that set the eighth-fastest time in school history. Â
Bucknell's women took third at the Patriot League Championships for the second consecutive season. Bucknell is back in action at Kinney Natatorium for the ECAC Championships from Friday, February 27 through March 1.
