LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell freshman center Amon Dörries earned his fifth PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Player of the Week honor on Monday after he posted two more 20-point games last week against American and Holy Cross.
Dörries has now eclipsed the 20-point mark eight times this season, with six of those performances coming in Patriot League play. Last week he tallied 21 points against American, hitting 7 of 13 shots from the field and 7 of 10 from the foul line. On Sunday against Holy Cross, he logged 20 points and a career-high nine rebounds.
Dörries leads the team and ranks eighth in the Patriot League in scoring at 15.4 points per game. In Patriot League games, he is fifth in scoring (17.8) and field-goal percentage (.552).
On Sunday, Dörries moved past Bob Barry into second on Bucknell's single-season freshman scoring list. He now has 448 points this season and needs 19 to equal Gerald Purnell's record of 467, which has been in the books since 1975.
Bucknell had not had a Rookie of the Week since 2020-21, but the Bison have now earned the award six times this season. Pat Curtin was honored on Jan. 12 along with Dörries' five citations. Kevin Bettencourt holds the Bucknell record and a share of the Patriot League record with nine Rookie of the Week nods in 2002-03.
The Bison are 5-11 in Patriot League play and finish up the regular season with road games at Army on Wednesday and Lehigh on Saturday.
