LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell freshman center Amon Dörries earned a pair of weekly honors on Monday after his record-setting 36-point game against Boston University over the weekend. Dörries was selected as the PennFed Credit Union Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the second straight week and third time this season, and he was also picked as the Bison of the Week.
Dörries shattered Bucknell's 48-year-old freshman scoring record with his 36-point performance in Bucknell's 103-97 double-overtime win on Saturday. Bucknell Athletics Hall-of-Famer Al Leslie had held the rookie record since 1978, when he scored 31 points against Rider. Dörries also set a new Sojka Pavilion scoring record for a Bucknell player, and the 36 points were the most by a Bison in any venue since Andrew Funk logged 38 at Illinois State in 2021-22.
Dörries hit four 3-pointers in six attempts, a new career-best for him, and went 11-for-19 overall and a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe. He tallied 15 of his 36 points in the two overtime periods, those coming after he forced extra time with a game-tying shot with 32 seconds left in regulation.
The 36 points are the most by any Patriot League player this season, and they are tied for eighth-most by any freshman in Division I men's basketball this season.
Earlier in the week, Dörries scored 16 points in an 81-79 road loss at Lafayette.
He is now averaging 14.5 points per game on the season to rank 11th in the Patriot League, and in conference play, his 16.9 ppg is ninth-best. In 10 PL contests, Dörries is shooting 55.8 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from 3-point range, and 81.1 percent from the foul line.
Bucknell is 4-6 in Patriot League play and is tied for fifth place with Army, Lafayette, and Loyola. Next up for the Bison is a trip to Washington, D.C., to face American on Wednesday night.
