LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior Achile Spadone earned a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League Team on Wednesday. In addition to being a captain and one of the league's top players, Spadone carries a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average as a psychology major.
Spadone has started all 32 games for the Bison this season and is averaging 12.2 points and a team-high 6.1 rebounds per game. He was even better in Patriot League play, logging 13.9 points and 7.3 boards per game. At 6'4", his 7.3 rpg ranked third in the league.
With injuries limiting Bucknell's rotation throughout much of the season, Spadone has been a workhorse for the Bison. He has played all 40 minutes in three of the last six games, and in Tuesday night's Patriot League Tournament win over Army, he played all but 13 seconds.
Spadone has hit the 20-point mark three times this season, with a high of 24 in a win over Boston University, and he has three double-digit rebounding games. One of the highlights of the season was his 35-foot buzzer-beat at American on Feb. 4.
Off the court, Spadone represents the men's basketball team on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and he is a Dean's List student and a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
The Geneva, Switzerland native was one of 11 student-athletes named to the Academic All-Patriot League squad. Navy's Austin Benigni was selected as the Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The Bison will face top-seeded Navy on Thursday in the Patriot League Tournament quarterfinals in Annapolis.
