LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell (10-12, 6-7 Patriot League) celebrated Senior Day with a sweep (25-22, 25-22, 25-20) of Navy (10-11, 8-5 Patriot League) on Saturday night. The Bison extended its winning streak to three games and moved into the thick of the Patriot League Tournament race. The Orange & Blue honored three seniors, Cameron Lloyd, Sidney Shaffer, and Kaitlyn Taylor.Â
Bucknell outperformed Navy in every metric: 46-33 in kills, 50-46 in digs, 6-2 in aces, and 8-7 in blocks.Â
Lloyd headlined Senior Day with 17 kills. Fellow senior Shaffer collected eight kills and two blocks. Taylor, whose playing time has been limited by injury, substituted several times and landed an ace.Â
Klea Tarja continued her streak of games with double-digit kills to four with 11 and the sophomore added ten digs.Â
Bucknell dominated a first set that only featured one tie. The Bison stormed out to a 12-8 lead before the Midshipmen tied it up. The Orange & Blue responded by reclaiming the lead and staying far enough ahead. A Shaffer kill finished off the 25-22 set win.Â
Navy owned leads of 3-0 and 7-5 in the second set. Both advantages evaporated under the glare of 3-0 and 8-0 Bison runs. The latter featured five kills by Lloyd. The Bison led 20-14 and looked ready to coast to the set win. Navy reversed the fleet and sailed ahead 21-20. The Orange & Blue counterattacked with a 5-1 run to sink the Mids' hopes and win the set.Â
The Midshipmen came out firing in the third set and briefly led 5-4. A 7-2 Bucknell run erased that lead. Navy inched within 15-13 before a 4-0 Bison stretch created the necessary separation. Bucknell continued to stack points, and for the second time in the match, a Shaffer kill won a set and, by extension, the match.Â
The senior class has won 58 games, clinched a Patriot League Tournament bid three times, and led Bucknell to a 21-5 record for the program's best single season winning percentage (.808) in 2024.
Bucknell heads to Army next Friday for a pivotal match. The Black Knights are currently sitting fourth in the conference while the Bison are fifth.Â
