Men's Soccer Looks to Bounce Back in Patriot League Match at American on Saturday

The Bucknell men's soccer team continues Patriot League action on the road at American at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Reeves Field.

Bucknell is coming off of a 5-0 loss to string Boston University team that has won four consecutive matches. American is coming off of a 1-0 loss to William & Mary last time out. The Eagles' match with Army last Saturday was postponed due to weather.

Boston U. and Lehigh lead the Patriot League with nine points each after 3-0-0 starts in league play. American, Bucknell and Loyola (Md.) are all tied on four points, although American has played one less match.

The Patriot League has struggled to get results in non-conference action as all teams have combined for a 10-35-21 record out of conference. Bucknell and Navy are the only teams with multiple non-conference wins.

Last Time Out for the Bison
- Bucknell fell 5-0 to Boston University on the road on Monday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
- The Terriers dominated the match, taking a 3-0 lead into half time before two more goals in the second half.
- Boston U. scored early in the 11th minute before two goals in the final six minutes of the half broke the match open.
- The Bison looked better in possession in the second half, but the Terriers scored twice in the final 20 minutes to put the match away.
- Bucknell has played a fierce non-conference schedule early in the season. The Bison fell to three strong opponents in Hofstra, Pitt and Old Dominion, all of whom have spent time in the polls. Old Dominion is 8-2 and ranks 23rd in the latest polls, and Pitt is 6-2-1 and ranks 20th. Hofstra ranked 20th at the start of the season when they faced the Bison.
- Bucknell is looking healthy again after missing key players through the first three matches. Lucas, Roskos and Bejarano played their first action of the season against ODU after all three of them missed the first three matches. Jakub Samelko also returned to the squad against Fordham. Roskos, Lucas and Samelko combined for 16 goals and four assists in 2025.
- The Bison struggled to produce goals early in the season, scoring eighth goals in nine matches to rank fifth in the Patriot League. Â
- After leading the league in 2025 in shots and shots on target, Bucknell currently ranks sixth in each category.
- Bucknell's two leading goal scorers from 2025, Drew Roskos and Jack Lucas, each have a goal since their return. Junior Cade Whitmire and senior Mason Lillis each have a goal. Freshmen Chayse Snyder, Hamish Riddell and Viktor Permyashkin also have one goal each.
- Riddell, Roskos and Permyashkin lead the team with three points on a goal and an assist.
- Junior forward Drew Roskos is the reigning Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, and he was voted as the 2026 Patriot League Preseason Forward of the Year. Senior Jack Lucas was voted as the Patriot League Preseason Defender of the Year.
- Colin Findlay and Noah Handzel lead the Bison with two assists each.
- Colin Findlay and Viktor Permyashkin are both from central Pennsylvania. Permyashkin is a Lewisburg native, and becomes the first Lewisburg graduate to play for Bucknell. Findlay is from Selinsgrove, just 20 minutes south of Lewisburg. Findlay's mother, Chrissy, is a former Bucknell women's soccer coach, and his father, Jim, served as the head coach at Susquehanna University for 28 years. Chayse Snyder is from Mechanicsburg, just 90 minutes from Lewisburg.
- Bucknell has 19 returning players on the 2025 squad. Bucknell's freshman class includes six players: Hamish Riddell, Max Walsh, Marcelo Ojeda, Viktor Permyashkin, Chayse Snyder and Grant Brokaw. The Bison also brought in junior transfers, Colin Findlay and Jack Bejarano.
- Dave Brandt is Bucknell's 14th full-time head coach and just the third dating back to 1967. Brandt, who is now in his fifth season at Bucknell, has a remarkable career record of 377-123-56 in stints at Bucknell, Messiah, Navy, and Hope. Brandt won six Division III national championships at Messiah and led Navy to the 2013 Patriot League title and an NCAA Tournament first-round win. Â
- Bucknell got off to a hot start in 2025, but struggled to get results in conference play down the final stretch of the season. The Bison ultimately fell to Boston U. on the road 3-1 in the first round of the Patriot League tournament.
- Bucknell had a knack for comebacks last season as the Bison went 4-3-1 in matches they had trailed in during the regular season.
- The Bison also scored in the final 16 minutes in eight of its 18 matches, and they scored a goal in the final five minutes in five matches.
- Bucknell senior class in 2025 combined for eight goals and seven assists last season.
- The Bison ranked third in the Patriot League with 29 goals for and ranked second with 1.611 goals per game.
- The Bison also led the league with 232 shots and 6.33 shots on target per game.
- Defensively, the Bison ranked third in the league with eight clean sheets, and seven of those clean sheets came in Patriot League action.
- Jackson Sullivan, the older brother of Collin, was named the 2025 Patriot League Defender of the Year.
- Drew Roskos, now a junior, was named the 2025 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Season.
- American is 1-5-3 and 1-0-1 in the Patriot League in 2026. The Eagles played to a 1-1 draw against Loyola (Md.) and won the opener 1-0 over Colgate.
- The Eagles have also played a tough non-conference schedule, facing Rutgers, Hofstra, Virginia, Liberty and North Carolina.
- American had an 8-8-2 record last season and were7-1-1 in the Patriot League. The Eagles earned the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament but fell to Lafayette 3-2 in the semifinals.
- American has also struggled to produce goals, scoring just three times in nine matches.
- The Eagles rank third in the Patriot League with 12 goals conceded.
- Sebastian Garces, Patryk Rojek and Chris Sullivan have scored the team's three goals.
- Henrick Boahen has the team's lone assist this season.
- Goalkeeper Evan Tubbs has played every minute this season and he has 32 saves, a .727 save percentage and a 1.33 goals against average.
- American leads the all-time series 17-9-6 over the Bison dating back to 1996.
- Bucknell and American played to a scoreless draw last season at Emmitt Field. The two sides met in the 2024 Patriot League semifinals where the Bison advanced on penalty kicks.
- American's last win over the Bison came back in 2022.
- Bucknell begins another four-game home stand on Tuesday at Emmitt Field as Mount St. Mary's comes to Lewisburg for a 7 p.m. kick off. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in 2025.
