LEWISBURG, Pa. — Cameron King won a hard-fought, three-set match on court five to clinch a win for Bucknell women's tennis on Saturday afternoon as it defeated Mount St. Mary's 4-3 in its spring home-opener.
Mount St. Mary's opened the match with an early 1-0 as they secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and two as Pescatore and Tang defeated Abby Platt and Riley Jennings 6-4 and Barlini and Perkins defeated Jaycie Mair and Mirra Manolov 6-4. Natalie Devraj and King earned Bucknell's lone doubles win with a 6-2 victory over Tsakiri and Trolese on court three.
Bucknell then won two singles matches back-to-back to take a 2-1 lead as Tori Allen defeated Tsakiri in two sets (6-4, 6-0) on court three and Abby Platt defeated Tang in two sets (6-4, 6-3) on court one. The Mount tied it on the next match to finish on court six. Baruni defeated Devraj in three sets after Devraj got out to an early lead in the series (0-6, 6-1, 6-2). Mount St. Mary's then regained the lead when Trolese won the court four match over Mair in two sets (7-5, 6-4). Down by two with two matches left, the Bison relied on Riley Jennings and Cameron King to bring home the second win of the weekend. Jennings tied the match up at three with a court two win over Perkins (3-6, 6-4, 6-2), so it all came down to the court five match between Rosenbach and King. King won the first set 6-3, but Rosenbach responded with a hard fought second set that went into extra points (7(3)- 6). It all came down to the third set to determine which team would take home the win and King was able to grab the third set 6-4 to earn the win for the Bison.
Bucknell women's tennis will return to the courts on Saturday, Feb. 7 and Sunday, Feb. 8 as it takes on Mercyhurst and Temple at home.
