Vice Wins Bucknell Invitational as Women's Golf Puts on Record-Setting Display to Defeat the Field by 33 Strokes

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior Katherine Vice won the Bucknell Invitational in a playoff as the Bucknell women's golf team captured the tournament by 33 strokes in a record-breaking team display over the weekend at the Bucknell Golf Club. Freshman Joelle Johnson took a second-place finish as six Bison finished in the top-10 in the individual field. Â
After a record-setting day on Saturday when the team set a 36-hole school record with 590, the Bison crushed its 54-hole record with an 885 total for the tournament. Bucknell's previous record over a 54-hole tournament was 596, set at the Bucknell Invitational back in 2023. Bucknell last won this tournament in 2022. Merrimack was the team runner-up, finishing well back with a 918.
Vice and Johnson finished the day at 10-over par for the tournament, heading into a friendly playoff. Vice took the match on the second playoff hole to win her first career tournament. Vice fired a team-low 71 (+1) on Sunday, grabbing an eagle on hole 15 and a birdie on hole 18 to get to 10-over par. Her 71 in the final round is a career-low for the junior and matched her career-best in relation to par. Vice shot 72-77-71 for the tournament.
Johnson wrapped up her first collegiate tournament with an impressive debut to start her career. Johnson carded a 75 in the third round with a birdie on hole 10, and she finished the tournament with rounds of 73-72-75.
Katrina von Behren finished in a tie for fourth on the individual leader board after carding 77-74-74. The sophomore's pair of 74s were career lows and one off her career-best of three-over par for a single round. Sophomore Sophia Bardunias shot 75-73-75 (+13) for the tournament to finish in a tie for fourth. Junior Nicole Yun finished in 23rd with a 79-74-80 for the tournament.
Bucknell's B-squad finished eighth in the tournament with a 934. Junior Lila Smith and senior Paige Richter each finished in the top-10 of the individual rankings. Smith got out to a rough start with an 83 in the first round, but fired back with two rounds of 72 on the back end of the tournament to finish in eighth place. Richter carded a 78-73-77 over the weekend.
Freshmen Caroline Zeiger and Darcy Wright each fired an 82 in the final round, and senior Erin Drahnak shot an 81 to wrap up her final Bucknell Invitational.
Bucknell is back in action for the Battle of the Creek at King's Creek Country Club for a two-day event starting on Monday, September 15.
