- The Bucknell men's soccer team is set for a midweek non conference match up with Mount St. Mary's on the road on Tuesday night at the Waldron Family Stadium.
- The Bison are most recently coming off a 3-2 loss to Boston at Emmitt Field on Saturday. All five goals were scored in the first half.
- Bucknell was ranked 24th in last Tuesday's United Soccer Coaches Polls, marking the first time since 1974 hat the Bison were picked in the coaches polls.
- The 24th-ranked Bucknell men's soccer team fell to Boston University 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Emmitt Field. All five goals were scored in the first 45 minutes in a hectic first half, but Sebastian Otero's 44th-minute goal would go down as the winner as the Terriers held on to win over the final 45 minutes.
- Bucknell held a 2-1 advantage after just 14 minutes of play in a crazy start to the match. Zane Domsohn scored his fourth goal of the season just three minutes in to put the Bison in front.
- The Bison controlled the first 10 minutes of the match with several opportunities to score, but Boston University stunned the Bison with a brilliant goal by Pharis Petrica against the run of play. Petrica won possession back at midfield and tried his luck from the halfway point.
- Just two minutes later, it was Lucas grabbing back the lead with his third goal directly from a free kick this season and his Patriot League-leading fifth goal of the season.
- Ethan Gill equalized for the Terriers in the 29th minute. The Terriers caught the Bison out in transition, and Petrica was involved again with a beautiful pass to carve out the back line. Gill got to the ball quickly and fired into the bottom left corner.
- Otero's goal came in the 44th minute to give Boston U. a 3-2 advantage. Otero received the ball in the box and took a beautiful touch around the defender to find space for the shot. Otero fired the shot into the bottom left corner, reminiscent of Gill's goal just 15 minutes prior.
- The Bison out-shot the Terriers 18-8 in the match with 11 shots on goal. Saadat finished the match with nine saves, making five in the first half and four in the second. Lapworth finished the match with just the three second-half saves.
- Bucknell is ranked No. 1 in the Atlantic Region in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Division I rankings.
- Bucknell's impressive start includes a season-opening win at No. 23 Hofstra, a 2-2 draw at Maryland and a 3-2 win over St. Bonaventure.
- Bucknell's loss to George Mason came on a last-minute goal from the Patriots to take the match 3-2. Â
- Bucknell has scored in the final 16 minutes in five of its nine matches and scored a goal in the final five minutes in three of its matches. The Bison have trailed in six matches to start the season, coming from behind in all but one to erase the deficit.
- At Hofstra, the Bison erased a 1-0 deficit before Jack Lucas scored the match-winner in the 75th minute.
- Against St. Bonaventure, the Bison trailed 2-1 early in the second half before Lucas equalized and junior Jakub Samelko won the match in the 88th minute.
- At Maryland, the Bison erased a 2-0 deficit with goals from two of its senior center backs. Jackson Sullivan converted a penalty kick and Ben Sheffield leveled the match with an 86th-minute goal.
- The Bison erased another 2-0 deficit, equalizing the match against George Mason 2-2 before the Patriots scored its late goal to win the match.
- Bucknell then trailed 1-0 to Old Dominion before scoring four consecutive goals.
- Lucas has been on the score sheet in each of Bucknell's first five matches with four goals and one assist. Â
- Lucas leads the Bison with 12 points on five goals and two assists. He has two match-winning goals and has earned two PL Offensive Player of the Week awards.
- Lucas was Bucknell's top point-scorer and goal-scorer in 2024, tallying three goals and four assists in the campaign. This season, Lucas has 18 shots, including 11 shots on target.
- Bucknell has 21 goals thus far from eight different goal-scorers to rank first in the PL. Forward Zane Domsohn has four goals on the season and ranks second in the PL. Forward Drew Roskos has three goals and an assist. Forward Jakub Samelko also has three goals this season.
- Center back Jackson Sullivan has two goals. Center backs Ben Sheffield and Jacob Thomas each have a goal, and forward Winston Oziri has one goal this season. Â
- Cade Whitmire has three assists in the last five matches and has three points on the season. Cohen Weaver, David Krumov and Nate Coughlin both have two assists, and goalkeeper Freddie Lapworth has tallied two assists in the last three matches.
- Senior Freddie Lapworth is the Preseason Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year after being named the 2024 PL Goalkeeper of the Year. Lapworth was a First Team All-PL and a First Team All-Region honoree in 2024. Lapworth was named one of nine goalkeepers to the United Soccer Coaches Goalkeepers to Watch List and one of 29 players named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
- Senior midfielder Jimmy Pombor was named to the Preseason All-PL squad. Pombor, a holding midfielder, had an excellent debut season in Orange and Blue after transferring from Lock Haven. Pombor has started every match since his arrival and was a First Team All-PL selection in 2024.Â
- Bucknell has 23 returning players on the 2025 squad, including 17 upperclassmen. Bucknell's freshman class includes center backs Jacob Thomas and Gavin Newcombe, wing back Nate Coughlin, holding midfielder Zain Elder and goalkeeper Thomas Yerbury.
- Dave Brandt is Bucknell's 14th full-time head coach and just the third dating back to 1967. Brandt, who is now in his fourth season at Bucknell, brought with him a remarkable career record of 354-86-40 in stints at Messiah, Navy, and Hope. Brandt won six Division III national championships at Messiah and led Navy to the 2013 Patriot League title and an NCAA Tournament first-round win.  Â
- Bucknell completed an incredible turnaround in 2024, winning its first Patriot League Championship since 2014. The Bison went from last place with a 2-10-1 (1-6-1 PL) record in 2023 to a 7-7-6 (4-1-4 PL) record in 2024 with a PL regular-season co-championship with Boston University. Bucknell defeated American in penalties in the semifinal match before a 3-0 rout of Colgate in the championship match. The only other team to make a last-to-first finish in their conference last season was North Florida Atlantic Sun Conference.
- Bucknell was one of the top defensive sides in the PL last season, allowing just five goals in nine league matches. The Bison only allowed multiple goals in five of its matches on the season, including a 2-1 loss in the first round of the NCAA tournament to Providence.
- The Bison allowed 21 goals in 20 games, allowing 1.038 goals per game that ranked 39th in the nation. Bucknell's eight clean sheets ranked ninth in nation and the Bison ranked 36th with a .400 shutout percentage. Freddie Lapworth led the PL with a .774 save percentage that also ranked 29th in the nation.
- On the attack, Bucknell's .950 goals per game average ranked last in the Patriot League despite ranking first in the Patriot League with 210 shots and ranking third with 82 shots on goal. Bucknell had 12 different goal scorers and 13 different players with an assist.
- Sophomore Drew Roskos had a great debut season for the Bison, netting three goals with three assists to rank second on the team with nine points. Juniors Cade Whitmire and David Krumov each had a team-high four assists.
- Mount St. Mary's is 1-4-3 to start the season and is 1-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
- The Mount finished 3-11-4 overall and 3-3-2 in the MAAC last season.
- The Mountaineers are most recently coming off of a 2-1 loss to No. 20 Marist on Saturday. The Red Foxes scored two early goals before O'Neil brought one back with a penalty goal.
- The Mount has 10 goals this season from six different goal-scorers. Jack Kehoe leads the team with six points on three goals. Graham Dougald has two goals and an assist, and Eliot O'Neil has two goals.
- Sherwin Chen, Luciano Schiaffini and Isaiah Garcia each have a goal. Chen, Schiaffini, Oliver Brown and Abou Cherif all have an assist.
- Maks Czyz and Dougald each had seven points in 2024 on three goals and an assist. Cherif scored twice last season.
- The Mount have given up 16 goals thus far. Goalkeeper Julian Marcos has made 34 saves and has a .680 save percentage.
- The Mount's only with thus far came in a 4-3 win over Merrimack. The Mount overcame a 3-1 deficit, scoring three unanswered goals in the final 46 minutes. Dougald equalized in the 80th minute and Garcia won the match with an 82nd minute goal.
- The Mount tied Navy, who the Bison will match up with on October 31. The Mount also fell to Binghamton 2-1, who the Bison face on October 7.Â
- Bucknell is looking to even the all-time series as The Mount leads 8-7. The two sides have played every year since 2018 with the Bison going 5-2 in that span. Bucknell has won each of the last two matches, including a 2-0 result last season.
- In last year's 2-0 victory, Jack Lucas scored the opening goal on a penalty in the 26th minute. Ben Sheffield then scored in the 66th minute on assists by Lucas and David Krumov.
- The Bison are back at Emmitt Field to take on Army in another Patriot League matchup on Saturday at 7 p.m.
- Army is also 1-1-1 in the PL with a 3-2-4 record overall.
- The Bison defeated Army 1-0 last year on an 85th minute goal by Waldemar Kattrup.
