LEWISBURG, Pa. — Sam Milligan was named the Bison of the Week after a record-breaking and game-winning performance in the Bison's 35-28 victory over VMI on Saturday.
The junior had four touchdown catches in the game, which broke the previous Bucknell record for touchdowns in a single game of three. Six Bison previously caught three touchdown passes in a game: Carl Probst (1971), Ken Jenkins (1980), Mike Morrow (1986), Will Carter (2014), Jake Hartman (2014), and Dominic Lyles (2021).
Milligan had three touchdown grabs in the first half alone, as Bucknell raced to a 21-7 lead at intermission. He sat out most of the third quarter due to a minor injury, but he returned in the fourth quarter and made the biggest play of the day. After VMI rallied to tie the game at 28-28, Milligan outmuscled a defender for a spectacular 37-yard catch in the front left corner of the end zone with less than two minutes to go, which would end up being the game-winner for the Bison.
Milligan finished with seven receptions for 192 yards. Outside of breaking the school's touchdowns in a single-game record, the junior broke his career receptions record with seven and his career reception yards record with 192.
Milligan's 192 receiving yards were the sixth-most in a game in team history, and the most since Carter went for 246 at Lehigh in 2014.
The junior was also given Stats Perform FCS National Offensive Player of the Week Honarable Mention Honors for his performance.
With Milligan's record breaking and game winning fourth touchdown of the game, the Bison now sit at 2-1 overall and are looking ahead to this week's match-up against Patriot League foe Lehigh on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. for Family Weekend.
