NEWARK, Del. - Delaware (2-3) kept the pressure on all game against Bucknell (2-4) on Sunday afternoon and defeated the Bison 3-1. The Blue Hens outshot the Bison 20-4 and scored two goals in a three-minute segment before halftime to ensure the victory. Kira Leclercq tallied on a penalty stroke, marking her third straight game with a goal.Â
Bucknell goalkeeper Sarah Althouse was under siege all game and held up remarkably, recording ten saves. Althouse last recorded double-digit saves (10) against Ohio State on Sept. 1, 2025.Â
Leclercq received the penalty stroke opportunity with four minutes remaining. The Bison defender originally had taken a shot off a penalty corner insertion. Her laser bounced off a Blue Hen, earning Bucknell the penalty stroke chance. Leclercq calmly deposited the opportunity, cutting the lead to 3-1.Â
Bucknell had the early opportunities, notching two penalty corners in the first four minutes. The Bison were unable to convert and would not take another shot until deep in the final period.Â
Delaware took over and kept pounding away at the Orange & Blue defense. The Blue Hens broke through for the opening goal when Alexa Michielsen found the back of the cage at the 23rd minute. Â
Three minutes later, Kate Fiest scored Delaware's goal for the 2-0 halftime advantage.Â
Delaware added an insurance goal with 20 seconds left in the third stanza. Livia van't Hek scored the tally off a penalty corner.Â
Leclercq's goal gave new energy to the tired Bison contingent but no more cage-finders were forthcoming.Â
Up Next
Bucknell will regroup and start Patriot League play this Friday when Colgate ventures to Lewisburg.Â
