LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior Henna Andican and sophomore Katie Connell earned spots on the Preseason All-Patriot League Women's Soccer Team on Thursday. The Bison, who were picked third in the preseason poll of head coaches, accounted for two of the four forwards selected to the 11-player team.
After winning Patriot League Tournament titles in 2021, 2022, and 2023, Bucknell claimed the regular-season crown last fall but fell to Boston University in an agonizing 10-round penalty kick shootout in the tournament final. The Terriers got the nod as the preseason favorite this year, collecting 80 points and eight of the 10 first-place votes. Army was second with 70 points and two first-place votes, and Bucknell fell just one point behind the Black Knights with 69 points.
Navy was picked fourth with 49 points, followed by Loyola (48), Colgate (41), Lafayette (33), Holy Cross (21), Lehigh (21), and American (18).
Andican earned Second Team All-Patriot League honors in 2023 after recording six goals and a league-high-tying nine assists. Last season, she scored in two of the first three games before suffering a broken arm at Monmouth that effectively ended her season. Andican played 37 minutes in the regular-season finale at Lafayette but re-injured the arm and was not able to play in the postseason.
Back healthy in 2025, Andican enters her senior campaign with 10 goals and 12 assists in 47 career appearances.
The Preseason All-PL Team consists of nine seniors and two sophomores, and Connell is one of the two second-year players along with Boston University goalkeeper Bridget Carr.
Connell enjoyed a strong rookie season in 2024, earning Third Team All-Patriot League honors after posting five goals and three assists. Her first two career goals came in consecutive games against Delaware and UMBC, and later she tallied a goal and an assist in Bucknell's 4-0 win over Loyola in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals.
Boston University claimed all four preseason major award-winners: Margy Porta (Offensive Player of the Year), Giulianna Gianino (Midfielder of the Year), Helene Tyburczy (Defensive Player of the Year), and Carr (Goalkeeper of the Year).
The Bison open the 2025 campaign at La Salle on Thursday, Aug. 14. The home opener comes one week later against Monmouth at 7 p.m. at Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium.
