HAMDEN, Conn.- Quinnipiac (2-0) denied Bucknell (1-1) its first 2-0 start since 2006 with two second-half goals in its 2-0 victory on Sunday afternoon. The Bison offense shot ten times but were turned away by the Bobcat defense. Sarah Althouse collected four saves.
Excellent defense dominated the game's first half. Both teams took four shots in the opening stanza but none of the efforts seriously threatened either goalkeeper.
The shot attempts dwindled in the second period to two attempts for Bucknell and zero for Quinnipiac. The Bobcats were called for two green cards and one yellow card but Bucknell was unable to score on the short-handed squad.
Quinnipiac drew a penalty corner in the 36th minute. Lauren Keyte tapped in the goal with an assist from Francisca Eschoyez for the 1-0 lead.
The Bobcats scored one minute and 50 seconds into the fourth period. Rozemarijn Van Keule received the pass from Katie Shanahan and deposited the insurance goal.
Bucknell had one prime chance to cut into the deficit when Kira Leclercq fired a shot off a penalty corner opportunity. Her attempt was blocked and Bucknell never had another opportunity.
