Bucknell Wins Home Opener in 88th Minute on Samelko's First Career Goal

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior Jakub Samelko's first career goal in the 88th minute lifted the Bucknell men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over St. Bonaventure on a hectic Sunday night at Emmitt Field.
Tied 2-2, Bucknell (2-0) looked for one final chance in the match as junior David Krumov won back possession in the attacking third on a failed clearance by St. Bonaventure (0-2). Krumov found junior Kiko Hidalgo who played a ball wide to freshman Nate Coughlin on the wing. Coughlin bent in a perfect cross to the back post to find Samelko who pounced on the opportunity to force it into the back of the net from point-blank range.

After a hectic start that saw two goals in the first two minutes of the match, the Bison fell behind in the match just three minutes into the second half on a header by Ricardo Rittersberger Galan.
Just six minutes later, junior Jack Lucas won a free kick in a dangerous area after beating multiple defenders on a dribble. Lucas took the free kick from 25 yards out, curling his right-footed effort off of the near post and into the back of the net to equalize the match 2-2.

It was a fast start to the match as senior Zane Domsohn opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the match. The Bison press was in effect early as Domsohn muscled the opposition off the ball in the attacking third after the kick off. The forward had plenty of time and space to set up the strike, firing home from 20 yards out for his first goal of the season.

Nearly 90 seconds later, St. Bonaventure's Seth Hammond equalized with a stunning free kick from just outside of the box to level the scoring 1-1. The fast-paced start continued as both teams combined for 10 shots in the first 10 minutes, including a brilliant chip by sophomore Drew Roskos that nearly gave the Bison a 2-1 lead.
The match cooled off over the remainder of the first half, but it was another hot start in the second half as both teams scored in the first eight minutes of play. Bucknell was dangerous on the attacking front, totaling 25 shots compared to St. Bonaventure's 13. Both sides finished with six shots on target.
Lucas and Roskos each had four shots in the match, and Roskos and Krumov each took three. Lucas had two on target, firing a second shot into the top corner that was saved just minutes after his equalizing goal.
Senior goalkeeper Freddie Lapworth was called upon to make four saves, and St. Bonaventure's Felix Schöne made three saves on the night.
Bucknell continues its non-conference schedule with a Friday night match on the road at Maryland at Ludwig Field. The Bison and the Terrapins are set to kick off at 7:30 p.m.
