LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell men's tennis team added another chapter to a memorable 2025, as the Bison recently returned from a busy 12-day, donor-funded European tour. Jason Cohen's squad visited four countries -- Spain, France, Monaco, and Italy -- and found time for both tennis training in beautiful settings and sightseeing in world-renowned cities such as Barcelona, Cannes, Monte Carlo, Venice, and Como.Â
"The trip was an amazing experience for the guys, and we are very thankful we were able to make this happen," said Cohen. "We got to go and experience new places and spend time together over the summer, which usually doesn't happen. We got to play a lot of tennis on red clay and just have fun being on the tennis court with each other, which was a great way to relax after the success we had winning the Patriot League just a few months ago. We are not wishing away summer just yet, but I know I am excited for the fall season to get here and get back to work to defend our title."
From a tennis standpoint, Cohen said the highlight of the trip was a practice session on center court at Monte Carlo Country Club. MCCC is the host of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters 1000, which is a clay-court tournament that leads into the French Open. World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz won this year's event back in April, defeating Lorezo Musetti in the final. The picturesque tennis club rests on a plateau overlooking the sea, with the mountains rising in the background. On the trip to the French Riviera, the team stayed in Montpellier and Nice and also got to visit Cannes and downtown Monte Carlo.Â
The trip started in Barcelona with sightseeing and a trip to Camp Nou, home of the famed soccer club FC Barcelona. The Italian leg included tours of Milan and Venice along with a boat ride on the scenic Lake Como with a stop at the lakeside village of Bellagio.Â
The European trip came only a few months after the Bison captured its first Patriot League title since 1991. Bucknell defeated Navy for the first time ever in the tournament final and went on to play in the NCAA team tournament, another first in program history.Â
The Bison will return to campus in a few weeks for the start of classes, and the fall tournament slate gets going on Sept. 20 at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
