LEWISBURG, Pa. – Katherine Vice carded her second straight 1-over-par 73 to finish in a tie for third place, and Paige Richter and Sophia Bardunias also placed in the top 10 as the Bucknell women's golf team finished as the runner-up at the YSU Spring Invitational at Avalon Lakes GC on Monday.
The Bison compiled a 596 team total (297-299) over 36 holes to place second in the eight-team field. The +20 aggregate tied the program record for score in relation to par at a 36-hole tournament, and it was the first time the Bison have broken 300 in both rounds. Bucknell was also +20 at Youngstown State's 2024 fall event, the Roseann Schwartz Invitational at Mill Creek GC, shooting 301-295 on a par-72 course.
Host Youngstown State won the title with a 582 composite. The Penguins and the Bison were the only two teams in the field to break 300, and they both did it in each of the two rounds. Bucknell finished 10 shots ahead of third-place Saint Francis.
Vice established a personal best with a 73 in the opening round, and she matched that number in round two. She parred every hole on the outward nine on Monday before making a birdie at the par-4 10th. She was still 1-under through 14 until a couple of late bogeys gave her a second-straight 1-over card. Vice's 146 total was just two shots behind co-leaders Valentina Pena Anaya and Neeranuch Prajunpanich of Youngstown State.
Not far behind were Richter and Bardunias. Richter shot 75-74 for a 36-hole total of 149, and she finished alone in seventh place. Richter racked up a team-high four birdies in the final round. Bardunias was solo eighth at 150 (74-76).
Nicole Yun (T-12th, 75-78—153), Tara Thomas (T-15th, 78-76—154), and Katrina von Behren (20th, 81-76—157) also had strong tournaments, and all six Bison finished in the top-20 in the play-6, count-4 format.
Next up for the Bison is the Patriot League Championship Apr. 18-20 at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa.
