Men’s Golf in Third on Tight Leaderboard at Patriot League Championship

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Freshman Jack Hartman fired a 1-under-par 69 in his first career Patriot League Championship round, and the Bucknell men's golf team is in third place on a crowded leaderboard after day one of the 54-hole event.
The Bison counted four scores of 72 or better and compiled a 3-over 283 team total. Loyola posted a 1-under 279 to take the first-round lead, but the top seven in the eight-team field are all within eight shots of the Greyhounds. Army is second at 281, followed by Bucknell, Colgate (285), Holy Cross (285), Navy (285), and Lafayette (287). Lehigh sits eighth after posting a 293.
Ten players posted red numbers on Friday, and Hartman is tied for fourth place at 1-under. Army's John Heckel Jr. has the lead at 3-under, and Nolan Schuermann of Holy Cross and Jake Roth of Lehigh are one shot back. Hartman is one of seven players at 1-under.
Michael Rudnick and Patrick Pritsios are tied for 12th place after carding 71s, and Hayden Quinn was Bucknell's fourth counter with a 73. The Bison discarded a 73 from James Robbins and a 78 from James. Key.
Bucknell's six players combined for 15 birdies on the day, led by four each from Hartman and Quinn. Hartman made three birdies in a five-hole stretch on the back nine to get to 2-under, but he gave one back with a bogey at 18. Still, Hartman posted his fifth under-par round of the spring.
Saturday's second round will get underway at 9 a.m. Bucknell will be in the final groups with Loyola and Army, with tee times starting at 11 a.m. off the first tee.
