Hopper Twins Notch All-CWPA Honors
4/23/2025 6:30:00 PM | Women's Water Polo
The twins have been electric in the pool as part of Bucknell's improvement from 6-21 last year to a current record of 14-12, including doubling its conference wins from two to four, an increase which has the Bison seeded fifth in the upcoming CWPA Tournament. Bucknell's underclassmen have played a crucial role in the reversal of fortunes and the Hopper twins have headlined that cause.Â
Olivia has been a goal-scoring machine leading the Bison with 77 tallies, 48 more than the second-place cage finders. Far from being one-dimensional, the attacker has also played important roles in Bucknell's defensive operations. She scored six goals multiple times and one weekend tallied 11 goals in three games against ranked foes.Â
"Olivia scored a lot and we look for a lot with our plays," said assistant coach Jillian Schultz. "She has a great shot, high IQ, and she's really creative."
Ashley did not equal her twin in pure goal amount but her 29 scores rank tied for second among Bucknell players. Defensively, she was positioned against the opposition's strongest players, which considering Bucknell's loaded schedule, meant facing some of the nation's finest players. Cool under pressure, she shoulders the responsibilities for taking many of the Orange & Blue's penalty shots.Â
"Ashley is similar," said Schultz. "She scores a lot for a side of the pool whose #1 job is passing. She takes a lot of our penalties, she's guards the stronger side on defense, and she counters a lot to draw exclusions or goals. She also makes plenty of good assists."
Bucknell faces fourth-seeded Brown this Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the CWPA Tournament's opening round. The entire tournament will be streamed on ESPN+.Â
