Savannah Jones Earns Second Patriot League Pitcher of the Week Award

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Savannah Jones was nearly untouchable last weekend in the series sweep of Colgate and the conference voters recognized her dominance by rewarding the senior hurler with her second Patriot League Pitcher of the Week award in 2025. All three games were must-win situations for the Bison and Jones delivered two sensational performances to keep Bucknell viable for the Patriot League Tournament.Â
"I'm really proud of Savannah for getting pitcher of the week," said head coach Sarah Caffrey. "She was outstanding for us against Colgate and really fueled the wins on both offense and in the circle. She was absolutely dominant with her pitches and it was really fun to get that performance at home for Senior Weekend, in front of our fans and families."
Jones channeled Jennie Finch by tossing 14 scoreless innings for two shutouts against the potent Colgate offense. The Raiders entered the weekend with 32 bombs in 38 games but their hitters were befuddled all weekend against Jones's string-pulling change-ups. The senior collected eight strikeouts, only allowed two walks, and most of Colgate's contact were weakly hit grounders and popups.Â
She received the ball in the first game and handled the Raiders in a narrow 2-0 victory. Colgate only collected two hits and did not walk once. Jones breezed through their lineups and rarely was in danger as she celebrated her Senior Day in style.Â
After Madison Roukey earned the victory in Saturday's second game, Jones again heard the call for Sunday's sole contest. She dodged a dicey first inning and then settled down for another two-hit shutout. Colgate worked two walks largely due to a smaller strike zone but the Raiders again failed to make significant contact against her offerings.Â
Jones's accomplishments were not limited to the circle. She also hit .600 (6 for 10) at the plate with two doubles and three RBIs. Her two-run double in Sunday's 5-0 win provided two crucial insurance runs.Â
Jones joined Roukey in winning the weekly award twice in 2025. 2018 was the last season Bucknell had two different pitchers win the award when Raeanne Geffert and Taylor Langtry completed the feat. The occurrence of two different pitchers earning the honor has happened eight times in Bison history (1993, 1995, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2025) but two hurlers have never won it twice in a season until today.Â
Having a deep bullpen is critical, especially this late in the season," said Geffert, Bucknell's all-time winningest pitcher. "As a pitcher, it is great to know another pitcher is also at the top of their game and can step up in big moments- it improves your own game. That trust and motivation translates into team wins."
Jones became the first Bison pitcher since Geffret in 2019 against Lafayette (April 6-7) to throw two shutouts in the same weekend.Â
Bucknell softball has won five straight games and will carry its momentum into a doubleheader versus Iona on April 24 for the final Becker Field appearances of the season.Â
