Lewisburg, Pa. - Bucknell hosted a successful Spring Game where the offense won for the first time since 2018, taking two of the three events.Â
The first segment of the game was the move the ball scrimmage, where the winner took the first point. The defense started out strong forcing the offense to punt on the first drive, but the offense responded with a point off of an accepted defensive penalty to tie the game at 1. Christopher Dietrich was at quarterback for the second drive and he kept the ball on a fourth down attempt and was stopped, which earned the defense two points. The defensive followed up their two points with another when the offense was given a flag for holding. The defense was up 4-1 when Deuce Geter stopped Tariq Thomas at the one-yard line on third and goal, but the offense went for it on fourth-and-one and Logan Bush ran the ball into the end zone to end the segment on a walk-off touchdown and hand the offense a 7-4 victory in the move the ball segment to put them up 1-0 overall.Â
The next scored segment was the Red Zone Scrimmage where the offense had four drives to score 20 points and win. The first drive began with Anthony DiLascio carrying the ball for seven yards. Dietrich then carried the ball and on third down gave it back to DiLascio who secured a first down. On first-and-goal Dietrich passed the ball to Jackson Nowinski for a gain of six yards. DiLascio carried the ball for a gain of one on 2nd-and-goal and then DiLascio ran the ball into the end zone on 3rd-and-goal to put the offense on the board. Matt Schearer made the PAT to give the offense a 7-0 lead. On the second drive, Ralph Rucker IV took to the field and launched a 20-yard pass to Sam Milligan for a touchdown on their first play. Juan Garanton made the PAT to make it a 14-0 lead for the offense. On the third drive of the game, it took the offense three plays for Logan Bush to carry the ball into the end zone on a five-yard run. Shearer made the PAT and the offense would win the segment by scoring 21 points in three drives, securing the victory before the final event.Â
While the offense took the first two events and secured the win, the defense won the final scored segment, which was the fourth down scrimmage. Out of the 12 4th down plays, the defense found seven stops including four sacks. Rucker was sacked three times as Geter, Seo Buffington, and Charlie Meehleib found their way to the QB. Dietrich was sacked once by Charlie McIntyre. In the segment loss, the offense had five first downs on two carries, two passes, and one defensive offsides.Â
The offense took a 2-1 victory over the defense to mark the first time since 2018 that the offense would defeat the defense in the Spring Game.Â
During the game, Head Coach Dave Cecchini announced the 2025 captains as voted by their teammates. The captains announced are second-time captain, offensive lineman John Ohnegian, quarterback Ralph Rucker IV, placekicker and punter Matt Schearer, and defensive back Terian Williams II.Â
