LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell junior Amar Tahirovic earned his fourth Patriot League Men's Tennis Player of the Week award of the 2025 spring season on Tuesday after a 4-0 day against league rivals Lehigh and Holy Cross. The Bison claimed seven of the 12 PL weekly honors this season, with Adam Stavrakas earning the other three.
Now 30-3 on the season, Tahirovic has continued his ascent in the ITA Men's Singles Rankings this week. He is now ranked No. 84 nationally, the highest by any Bucknell player in at least the last 35 years.
Bucknell defeated Lehigh and Holy Cross by 4-0 scorelines on Saturday in Bethlehem, Pa. The Bison finished the regular season with a 16-6 overall record and a 6-1 mark in the Patriot League. Lehigh also entered Saturday's match with one conference loss, so Bucknell needed a win over the Mountain Hawks to secure the No. 2 seed for the Patriot League Tournament.
At No. 1 singles, Tahirovic fell behind Lehigh's Jose Murariu 4-1 in the first set before rattling off 11 straight games to win 6-4, 6-0. Later in the day, Tahirovic beat Holy Cross' Ezequiel de la Plaza 6-1, 6-3. He also teamed up with Brendan McDonald for a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles.
Tahirovic is now 80-18 in singles over the last three seasons, and he ranks second in team history in career wins behind Nick Bybel's 112. Tahirovic also ranks 11th all-time with 66 doubles wins, and his 146 combined victories are the fifth-most in team history.
Tahirovic will take a 12-match singles winning streak into the postseason. He is 19-1 in duals, including a 14-1 mark at No. 1 and an undefeated ledger against Patriot League opponents. That record will be put to the test this week when Bucknell hosts the 2025 Patriot League Tournament. The Bison will first play No. 7 Lafayette on Friday at 4 p.m. in the quarterfinal round.
