All Four Bison Entries Reach Grand Finals, Finish in Top Five at Knecht Cup

RESULTS
CHERRY HILL, Pa. – It was a stellar weekend for the Bucknell rowing team, as all four of its reached Grand Finals and finished in the top five at the Knecht Cup, a large two-day regatta that wrapped up Sunday on the Cooper River.
Bucknell had two eights and two fours on the water, going up against good competition. The Varsity Four and Second Varsity Eight both finished in third place, and the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Four both finished fifth. Both eights had first-years in the stroke and 7 seats, with Sadye Levensten and Sophia Cavalieri in the 1V8+ and Enya Gilroy and Chinemere Njoku piloting the 2V8+.
The Varsity Eight won both its preliminary heat and its semifinal race on Saturday. Coxswain Katie Lash's crew finished ahead of Massachusetts, La Salle, Canisius, Lehigh, and Duquesne in its first heat. Later in the day, Bucknell won its semifinal race by just over three seconds ahead of Drexel, with Marist, Monmouth, Ithaca, and Canisius trailing.
The Bison 1V8+ posted a time of 6:45.45 in Sunday's Grand Final, finishing in front of Villanova and behind Boston University, MIT, Drexel, and Radcliffe.
The 2V8+, led by coxswain Hattie Hopper, was runner-up in both of its prelims on Saturday. They trailed Wisconsin and defeated Connecticut, Duquesne, and Fairfield in the morning, and Bucknell finished behind MIT and ahead of Wisconsin, UMass, Marist, and Boston University.
In Sunday's Grand Final, the Bison finished in 6:57.94, five seconds behind first-place MIT and about three behind Drexel. Bucknell outrowed Jacksonville, Wisconsin, and UConn to claim the bronze medals.
Bucknell's 1V4+ also took home third-place medals in a closely contested Grand Final. The Bison finished in 7:49.27, which was 3.9 seconds behind Lafayette and only about one seat behind runner-up Drexel. Mercyhurst, Boston University, and Jacksonville claimed the 4-5-6 spots.
On Saturday, the Bison 1V4+ was runner-up to Jacksonville in its morning heat and second to Mercyhurst in the semifinal round. Bucknell bested Villanova, Canisius, Stetson, and Scranton in the first heat, and Georgetown, Fordham, MIT, and Duquesne in the semis.
The 2V4+ qualified for the Grand Final by placing second to MIT in its prelim. The Bison finished ahead of Lehigh, Fordham, and UConn. In Sunday's final, Bucknell finished in 8:19.32 and defeated Jacksonville while finishing behind MIT, UMass, Wisconsin, and Drexel.
Next up for the Bison is the Ford Lake Cup, hosted by Eastern Michigan on Ford Lake in Ypsilanti.
