Lewisburg, Pa. - Head Coach Dave Cecchini and the Bucknell football program released the team's 2025 slate of games on Friday. The Bison are scheduled to play 12 regular-season games for just the fourth time in program history.
Bucknell opens the season by traveling west to take on Air Force on August 30 as part of a two-game away stint right off the bat. The home opener for the Bison on Sept. 13 will be against the Virginia Military Institute and serves as the first of six games that will be played on the home field of Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Bucknell's first Patriot League opponent of the season will be cross-state rival Lehigh at home on Sept. 20 and the Bison won't see a bye week in their schedule until the end of October which is the latest the program has seen since 2019. The regular season for Bucknell comes to an end Nov. 22 against Colgate on the road.Â
Along with VMI and Lehigh, the Bison will host Saint Francis on Sept. 27, University of Richmond on Oct. 4, Georgetown on Oct. 25 and will close its home slate of games with Holy Cross on Nov. 15. Along with Air Force and Colgate, Bucknell will travel to take on Marist on Sept. 6, Lafayette on Oct. 11, Cornell on Oct. 18 and Fordham on Nov. 8.
Bucknell saw 9 of its 12 2025 opponents on its schedule last season and will be facing two opponents for the first time in program history. The Bison's season opening game against Air Force will be the first meeting between the two programs. Last season, the Falcons went 5-7 overall.Â
In week two, Bucknell will see Marist for the fourth consecutive season. The Bison are currently 15-1 all-time against the Red Foxes with last season's victory coming 34-18. Bucknell will then see VMI for a fourth consecutive year on week three as the first of four straight home games. Bucknell will see its first Patriot League opponent Lehigh on week four for the family weekend game.Â
Week five will see another first-time meeting between teams as Bucknell will host Saint Francis on Sept. 27. Last season. The Red Flashes went 4-7 overall last season. Bucknell will then host the University of Richmond in its homecoming game before heading on the road for games against Lafayette and Cornell. With the game against the Big Red on the schedule, Bucknell will have had at least one Ivy League team on their schedule in 46 of the last 47 seasons.Â
After returning from Ithaca, Bucknell will face Georgetown at home before having a bye week. Coming back from the week off, the Bison will play two of its final three games on the road at Fordham and Colgate and host its final home game against Holy Cross on Nov. 15. The road game at Colgate on Nov. 22 will serve as the regular-season finale for the Bison as they close out their schedule against the Raiders for the second consecutive year.
2025 season tickets will go on sale later this spring.Â
The Bison are entering their seventh season under head coach Dave Cecchini in 2025. Coming off of a solid season where the Bison landed the Patriot League Offensive Player of Year and Walter Payton Award finalist in quarterback Ralph Rucker IV, Patriot League Rookie of the Year in running back Tariq Thomas, Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year in center John Ohnegian, ten players on the All-Patriot League teams and a league-high four players on the Academic All-Patriot League squad, Bucknell is returning a handful of those contributing players and welcoming some exciting new additions to the squad.Â
