Men’s Golf Wraps Up Week at Torrey Pines

RESULTS
LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Bucknell men's golf team improved in each round of the UC San Diego Invitational, finishing with a 301 team score in Tuesday's final round at the famed Torrey Pines South Course. James Key closed with a 1-over-par 73, which was the best of the week for a Bison squad that finished in 19th place.
All five Bison made multiple birdies on day three of the tournament, which was held at the 7,802-yard South Course. The track has hosted two U.S. Opens and is the annual spot for the Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour.
Key birdied the 6th and 14th holes to go with 13 pars. After opening with an 82, Key finished with 75-73 and was the low Bison in a tie for 54th place. Patrick Pritsios followed Key's 73 with a 75. James Robbins shot 76, and Jack Hartman finished with a 77. Michael Rudnick's 79 was discarded. The freshmen Pritsios and Hartman led the Bison with three birdies each on Tuesday.
New Mexico State closed with a 5-under 283 to come from behind and win the team title with an 885 total. Arkansas State was second at 887, followed by UC Irvine at 891, Sacramento State at 892, and Seattle at 899.
Arkansas State's Thomas Schmidt finished off a wire-to-wire win with a final-round 72. He tallied a 5-under 211 (71-68-72) to claim medalist honors by six hots over Kevin Li of Seattle.
The Bison will be back in action on Apr. 5-6 at the Testudo Cup, hosted by Maryland at the P.B. Dye GC in Ijamsville, Md.
