Water Polo Splits Contests Versus #15 Michigan and Mercyhurst

ANN ARBOR, Mich.- Bucknell water polo (12-9, 3-5 CWPA) split a pair of games against CWPA competition on Saturday at the Wolverine Invite. The Bison dropped a 19-7 defeat to #15 Michigan and rebounded to rout Mercyhurst 16-5.Â
Mercyhurst Recap
The Bison led 15-3 after three quarters to pick up its second win of 2025 over CWPA foe Mercyhurst. The Lakers were no match for the deeper and more talented Bison.Â
Four different Orange & Blue shooters scored in the first period with Izzy Lippolis providing two tallies for the 5-1 lead.Â
Gwen Kallmeyer tallied two of her game-high four goals in the second period and Bucknell led 8-3 at halftime.Â
The game was put to bed in the third period with Bucknell outscoring Mercyhurst 7-0. The Hopper twins each scored two goals to key the Bison attack. Seniors Sidney Finkler and Boati Motau provided a tally apiece.Â
Mercyhurst scored twice to Bucknell's one in the final period but the result was a sop to the doomed Lakers. Rhys Beutler earned the sole goal.Â

Emma Gustafsson scored all four of Michigan's goals in the first period while Ashley Hopper provided Bucknell's sole deposit.Â
In the final three quarters, Michigan scored five goals and Bucknell tallied two goals in each.
Michigan added five more tallies in the second quarter to Bucknell's two scores. Ashley and Olivia Hopper each netted a goal.Â
Olivia Hopper and Bella Schraa provided the scores in the third period.Â
Rhys Beutler supplied both goals in the final stanza but the Wolverines sailed to victory.Â
