LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's swimming & diving team won nine events in a strong showing at the Bison Invitational on Saturday, and two student-athletes who combined for four of those wins were honored by the Patriot League on Tuesday. Freshman Clara Renner was selected as the Patriot League Swimmer of the Week, while senior Reggie Frias was named PL Diver of the Week.
Frias had a huge day on the boards, winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. She entered the meet with the second-best score in team history on the 3-meter board but had yet to break into the Bucknell top-10 in the 1-meter competition. That changed on Saturday, when she posted a winning aggregate of 261.40 to move into the No. 6 spot. She bested Navy's MacKenzie Kim by 6.4 points for first place.
Frias later won the 3-meter competition with a score of 272.00. This one was much closer, as Frias clipped Kim by just 1.2 points, with Bucknell's Meghan Catherwood third.
Renner's remarkable rookie season continued on Saturday, and she earned her third Patriot League Swimmer of the Week award. She won both of her events – the 200-yard individual medley and the 200 freestyle – to give her 21 event wins on the season. She has yet to be beaten by any Patriot League swimmer, and she holds the league's top time in four different events.
Renner turned in a near-record swim on the way to victory in the 200 IM. Her 2:00.86 is second-best in Bucknell history and just a shade off Maggie Wyngowski's five-year-old standard of 2:00.15. She went 1-2 in that event with teammate Sara Ketron, and later in the day Renner and Kyla Kelly went 1-2 in the 200 free.
Bucknell's men's and women's squads are now training for the Patriot League Championships, which they will be hosting at Kinney Natatorium on Feb. 19-23.
