Clutch Wins by Whitney and Cameron King Send Women’s Tennis to 4-3 Win over Slippery Rock

ERIE, Pa. – After Cameron King leveled the match at 3-3 with a straight-set win at No. 6 singles, Whitney King won a tough three-setter at No. 1 to lift the Bucknell women's tennis team to its second straight victory, 4-3 over Slippery Rock on Saturday night at Westwood Racquet Club.
Whitney King won the first set 6-4 against Amaia Balaguer Brau but was forced to a third set. With the team score all knotted at 3-3, King rolled to a 6-2 win in the third set to give the Bison their third dual-match win of the season.
Bucknell won the doubles point with victories on Courts 1 and 3. Slippery Rock was first off with a win at No. 2 doubles, but the Bison won the final two Whitney King and Abby Platt jumped out to a 3-0 lead and took a 6-4 decision from Nicole Kempton and Alissia Aleksandra Kivi at No. 1. That came just after Anna Lajos and Riley Jennings won 6-3 over Dari Sakhanova and Georgia Lancaster at No. 3.
At fifth singles, Jaycie Mair quickly dispatched Sakhanova 6-1, 6-0, but Slippery Rock came back to win three in a row on Courts 2, 3, and 4.
Cameron King was down a break in her first set against Lancaster, and at 3-4 came back to win three games in a row. King got the early break in the second set and finished it off at 6-2.
Balaguer Brau took the opening game of the third set, but Whitney King stormed back to win four in a row to take control and send the Bison to the narrow victory.
Bucknell will be back in Erie on Sunday to face Mercyhurst at 2 p.m.
