Women's Tennis Heads to Erie to Take on Slippery Rock and Mercyhurst

- The Bison women's tennis squad heads to Erie, Pennsylvania this weekend for a pair of contests at Division II PSAC school, Slippery Rock, and new Division I program, Mercyhurst.
- In their lone dual last week, Bucknell picked up its first win of the spring over Marist. The Bison improved to 2-4 in dual matches and snapped a four-match losing skid.
- The Red Foxes claimed the doubles point, but the Bison bounced back nicely in singles with four straight wins, including three-setters from Whitney King and Abby Platt in the top two spots in the lineup. Tori Allen won her match in straight sets and Jaycie Mair provided the clinching point with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Vihana Shresta at No. 5 singles.
- Whitney King leads the Bison with an 8-3 record in singles matches. Natalie Devraj (7-2), Cameron King (7-2) are right behind her with seven singles wins apiece. Mirra Manolov (6-5) has six wins and Allen (5-6) and Mair (5-6) each have five wins.
- Whitney King and Abby Platt are 4-1 in duals at No. 1 doubles, and the duo is 8-4 on the full season.
- The Bison now have combined team records of 48-41 (.539) in singles and 24-19 (.558) in doubles dating back to the start of the fall.
- Whitney King continues to climb Bucknell's career wins charts. She now ranks 13th in singles wins with 56, seventh in doubles wins with 70, and eighth in combined wins with 126.
- The Rock is 1-2 to start its spring season with a 4-3 win over Cleveland State in its most recent outing. Â
- Slippery Rock was 15-8 last season, falling to No. 49 IUP in both the PSAC Championships and the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Rock swept Millersville 4-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
- Amaia Balaguer Brau (10-5) leads the squad with 10 wins in singles matches. Alisa Kivi and Dari Sakhanova are both 7-4 on the year. The Rock are 38-33 as a team in singles matches and 7-11 in in dual matches thus far.
- In doubles matches, Nicole Kempton and Kivi lead the team with a 12-2 overall record and are 2-0 in dual matches this season. Balaguer Brau and Tina Slovak are 3-0 on the season and in dual matches. As a team, The Rock are 25-12 overall and 7-1 in dual matches. Â Â
- Mercyhurst also brings a 1-2 dual-match record into Sunday's contest, defeating Daemen University 7-0 this past Wednesday. The Lakers are competing in their first season at the Division I level.
- Daria Rogova (6-1) leads The Rock with six wins in singles matches this season. Kayla Dean (5-2) is close behind her with five wins. Dean and Roisin Murphy have a 4-2 record in doubles matches. Â
- Dean and Murphy won the doubles NEC Championship in their first-ever appearance in the fall.
- In the fall, Rogova and Dean each picked up a win at the ITA Northeast Regional. Murphy and Sara Bertolez Puente also competed.
- Following this weekend's action, the Bison are off until Spring Break. Bucknell heads south to Florida, beginning with a match against Patriot League foe Boston University on March 10. The Bison will then take on Florida Southern College and Southeastern University over the following two days.
