
Wrestling Battles in 27-18 Defeat to #9 Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y.- Bucknell wrestled valiantly against #9 Cornell but the Big Red were ultimately too strong for the Bison in a 27-18 outcome on Saturday afternoon. The Bison (5-12)Â recorded four dual wins including three by major decision, technical fall, and pin. Cornell (10-1) went 3-1 in ranked matches.Â
No. 16 Myles Takats (174) added to his glorious 2024-25 campaign by upsetting No. 9 Simon Ruiz in a 11-3 major decision. The result drew the Bison within 16-15 of the ranked foe. It was Bucknell's high water mark in the match. Cornell would win the next two matches to seal the win.Â
The match started in a Bucknell forfeit at the 125-pound position. Kurt Phipps (133) reliably responded with a Bucknell win. The fifth-year senior triumphed in a 18-3 technical fall. No. 20 Dylan Chappell (141) dropped a 10-1 major decision to No. 30 Josh Saunders. No. 20 Ethan Fernandez defeated Braden Bower 5-1 in the 149-weight group and Cornell led 13-5.Â
Riley Bower (157) avenged his twin brother's defeat with a pin in 1:09 minutes over Owen Finn and the Bison were within two points. No. 5 Julian Ramirez prevented a Bucknell lead by defeating No. 22 Noah Mulvaney 10-4 in the 165-pound clash.Â
Takats obtained his career victory but No. 6 Chris Foca routed Logan Deacetis by technical fall (17-1) in the 184-pound grouping. Mikey Bartush (197) was pinned by No. 24 Mikey Dellagatta and the match was Cornell's at 27-15.Â
Bucknell refused to quit and Logan Shephard (285) ended the dual on a good note with a 11-4 decision over Aiden Compton for the final score of 27-18.Â
