
Women’s Lacrosse Opens Season with 16-4 Loss to No. 22 Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Bucknell women's lacrosse team dropped its 2025 season opener 16-4 at No. 22 Penn State on Wednesday at Holuba Hall. Freshman Alex Macutek and sophomore Mimi Sue Novak scored their first collegiate goals for the Bison.
Megan Krestinski and Allie Boyce also scored for Bucknell, and middie Katie Wolin had a strong game with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Freshman Kate Hearns, who started on defense in her collegiate debut, added two caused turnovers.
Emma Kelly and Elise Smigiel scored three goals each to lead a balanced Penn State attack. Kelly MacKinney added a goal and four assists. The Nittany Lions, who bounced back after dropping their season opener to Richmond, led 3-1 after the first quarter before breaking it open with eight goals in the second.
Boyce's goal, coming on a fourth-quarter 8-meter attempt, was the 117th of her career. She now has sole possession of seventh place on Bucknell's career chart.
Colleen Kazanjian started in goal and made three saves. Bella Crowley took over in the second half and stopped one shot. Penn State starter Sydney Mannings tallied five saves while allowing just one goal in 32:15 of action.
Penn State finished with a 28-13 edge in shots and had a big advantage in time of possession thanks to a 20-4 margin in draw controls. The Bison handled the ball well, going 16-for-17 on clears and committing only eight turnovers compared to 15 by PSU.
Next up for the Bison is their home opener, scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. against Rider at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
