LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison women's water polo team is off to its best start since 2020Â and freshman Olivia Hopper has been the driving force behind the fast paced beginning. The rookie led the attack that generated a 4-0 record at the Bucknell Invitational this past weekend earning her Bison of the Week as announced by the Bucknell Athletics department.
Hopper was paramount in Bucknell's perfect weekend. She posted 14 goals in four games, including a pair of six tally contests against La Salle and Siena. She added a score in the thrilling 10-9 victory over CWPA foe Saint Francis and, despite playing sparingly against newly minted Division I Mercyhurst, still managed a goal.Â
Bucknell started the weekend with a 15-9 victory over La Salle and a 19-7 triumph over Siena. Hopper set the tone in both games by scoring three goals in the first quarter. The Bison only beat both teams by one goal when they first met during week one at the Princeton Invitational but had little trouble on Saturday. Hopper added three more goals in the second quarter against Siena to effectively end the game by halftime with the 14-4 lead.Â
Hopper has been the headliner for the new-look Bison leading the team with 24 goals. Her twin sister Ashley Hopper has been a compatriot scoring 14 goals, including seven this past weekend.Â
Bucknell has experienced a resurgence in 2025 with its 9-1 start and currently holds a nine-game winning streak. The Bison have posted a winning record every weekend and already surpassed its 2024 win total of six. The Orange & Blue are 2-0 in CWPA play after defeating Mercyhurst and Saint Francis.Â
The Bison are off this upcoming weekend but return to action with three CWPA games against Brown, Harvard, and Princeton on Feb. 22-23.Â
