LEWISBURG, Pa. – In its final tuneup before the Patriot League Championships, the Bucknell men's swimming & diving team captured three events and added three new top-10 marks at the non-scored Bison Invitational on Saturday at Kinney Natatorium.
Taking on a field that included perennial Patriot League champion Navy along with American, Lafayette, Lehigh, and Shippensburg, the Bison picked up wins from Riley Twiss, in the 200-yard butterfly, Matt Raudabaugh in the 200 breaststroke, and Jack Krug with a big PR on the 1-meter diving board.
Bucknell started the afternoon with a third-place finish behind two Navy quartets in the 200 freestyle relay, and the Bison foursome of Drew Greene, Finn Russell, Colin Smith, and Justin DiSanto put their names in the record book with the sixth-fastest time in school history (1:21.09). DiSanto helped break the school record in the event in 2022, and this group was only about a second and a half off that pace on Saturday.
Bucknell's first win of the day came from Twiss in the 200 fly, as he nosed out a Navy competitor by only .23 seconds. Twiss's time of 1:49.16 moves him into the No. 7 spot in team history. Later in the meet, Raudabaugh earned his first win of the season with a 2:06.40 in the 200 breast.
Krug has been on fire on the diving boards in recent weeks, and Saturday was no exception as he won the 1-meter event and placed third in the 3-meter. His score of 299.90 on the low board was 18 points better than his previous career best, and he vaulted from fifth to second on Bucknell's all-time list. Adam Freeman broke the school record at this meet in 2005, scoring 318.15.
The Bison also collected three runner-up finishes, including a 2-3 showing from Will Hedges and Raudabaugh in the 100 breast. Damian Czartoryjski was runner-up in the 100 fly, with Twiss close behind in fourth. The 200 medley relay, comprised of Greene, Twiss, Russell, and Smith, finished second behind Navy.
Bucknell fared well in the 200 individual medley, which was the first individual event of the day. Chris Kopac placed fourth, Avery Kuhn fifth, and Caleb Kubiak eighth, with only Navy swimmers ahead of any Orange & Blue caps.
Smith, Dante Buonadonna, and Russell went 4-5-6 behind Navy in the 100 free, and Kuhn was third behind two Midshipmen in the 200 back.
Bucknell will now focus on the 2025 Patriot League Championships, which will be held at Kinney Natatorium on Feb. 19-22.
