RESULTS
Â
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's 800-yard freestyle relay came agonizingly close to breaking a school record, but Riley Twiss, Damian Czartoryjski, Andy Dorsel, and Chris Kopac were still plenty fast enough to earn bronze medals to cap off the opening night of the 2025 Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships at Kinney Natatorium.
Â
It was an abbreviated program with only two men's events contested on Wednesday, with three more days of competition still to come. Bucknell is in fourth place with 106 points, trailing Army (120), Loyola (116), and 20-time defending champion Navy (110). Lehigh is in fifth, just eight points behind Bucknell.
Â
The Bison 800 free relay posted a time of 6:30.18, missing the school record by a mere one-hundredth of a second. Dorsel and Kopec also swam the last two legs on last year's championship relay, which compiled a 6:30.17 at Navy's Lejeune Hall.
Â
Kopac went a blazing 1:35.68 on the anchor leg to help the Bison overcome Loyola for third place. Kopac was more than two seconds faster than the Greyhounds' fourth swimmer, and his time would have been under his own school record in the 200 free. Army set meet, league, and pool records with a winning time of 6:18.62.
Â
Earlier in the evening, Bucknell placed fourth in the 200 medley relay. Shane Wynne, Will Hedges, Finn Russell, and Justin DiSanto finished in 1:27.86, which is the fourth-fastest time in school history. The top four times in school history have come in the last four years, and DiSanto has now been part of the first-, second-, and fourth-fastest 200 medley relays in team history.
Â
Loyola set meet, league, and pool records with its winning time of 1:23.74. Army was second and Navy third.
Â
Day 2 of the Patriot League Championships is set for Thursday, with preliminaries starting at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. Medals will be awarded in five men's events: the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 free, 400 medley relay, and 1-meter diving.
