Women’s Soccer Records Second Straight Shutout but Again Settles for Draw at Loyola

BALTIMORE, Md. – Bucknell and Loyola played a tightly contested 90 minutes on Saturday at the Ridley Athletic Complex, and the two sides finished in a 0-0 draw to remain unbeaten in Patriot League play. Both teams are now 1-0-3 in conference play and sit one point behind Colgate and Boston University for the top spot.
Bucknell continued its defensive resurgence, as its young back line conceded only five total shots and just two on frame against Loyola. The Bison have allowed only one goal – a deflected shot in a 1-1 draw at Holy Cross – through four Patriot League matches, and goalkeeper Reese Dolan improved her season goals-against average to 0.70 and her save percentage to .837.
Dolan made two saves against the Greyhounds and also went up to handle a couple of corner kicks in the late stages of the match. Bucknell was under a bit of pressure in the final five minutes but kept organized in its own box with some timely clearances.
The Bison generated nine shots, including four on target. Henna Andican led all players with four attempts, two of which required saves from Hannah Goetzer.
"We battled hard, and I think both teams saw the effects of playing on Wednesday night," said head coach Kelly Cook. "It was an even match with both teams limiting scoring opportunities. We executed some things better than we have in recent games but just couldn't find that connection in the final third. I was proud of the defensive effort in the final few minutes when they had us under some pressure. Those are big moments in Patriot League games, and we were able to preserve the tie."
The Bison will now have a week off before hosting Boston University next Saturday in a rematch of the 2024 Patriot League championship game. The Terriers have had a strong week, winning 3-2 at Army on Wednesday at 5-0 at home against Lafayette on Saturday.
