Three-Set Wins Highlight Men’s Tennis’ Day at River City Open

RICHMOND, Va. – The Bucknell men's tennis team posted a 4-3 singles record, with three of the four wins coming in three-set matches, on day two of the River City Open, hosted by Richmond. No. 43 Amar Tahirovic, Adam Stavrakas, and Liam Kilmer all won singles tilts for the second straight day, and Brendan McDonald joined them in the winner's circle on Saturday.
Tahirovic won his second straight-set match of the weekend, defeating Richmond's Paxton Pritchard 7-5, 6-2. Stavrakas dropped the first set but came back to beat William & Mary's Austin Cohen 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Kilmer won a tightly contested 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 6-3 verdict over William & Mary's Nikita Bortnichek, and McDonald outlasted Richmond's Nathan Germino 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
Nelson Alapi also played a lengthy three-set match but fell 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 6-4 to Dylan Chou of William & Mary.
All four of Bucknell's doubles tandems were in action on Saturday, and Tahirovic and McDonald cruised to a 6-1 win over Chou and Cohen from William & Mary. The Bison dropped their other three doubles matches, but two were decided in tiebreakers and the other by a 7-5 count.
The River City Open wraps up on Sunday.
