Amar Tahirovic Named Bison of the Week After Claiming Pair of Titles

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior Amar Tahirovic earned Bison of the Week honors on Monday after a repeat performance at the Patriot League qualifier for the ITA Conference Masters Championships at Lehigh over the weekend. For the second straight year, Tahirovic swept both the singles and doubles titles, and he and doubles partner Brendan McDonald will be headed to San Diego in two weeks with a chance to play for an NCAA berth.
Tahirovic, ranked No. 43 nationally and the reigning Patriot League Player of the Year, dropped only one set in the singles draw, and it was to his own teammate, Adam Stavrakas, in the final. Tahirovic defeated opponents from Colgate, Navy, and Boston University in the lead-up to the final, and he is now 10-3 in singles this fall.
Tahirovic and McDonald defeated Jakob Esterowitz and Payton Jim On of Boston University 8-5 in the doubles final, capping a 3-0 weekend for the top seed by a combined set score of 24-12. Tahirovic and McDonald are now 6-2 on the season and will look to continue their strong play in San Diego in two weeks.
The ITA Conference Masters will be held in San Diego Nov. 6-9, and the tournament will feature representatives from every Division I conference. It serves as a qualifier for the NCAA Championships at the USTA National Campus at Lake Nona, Fla., Nov. 18-23. The four singles semifinalists and the top three doubles teams will earn NCAA bids.
