Â
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second year in a row, it will be an all-Bucknell set of finals at the Patriot League qualifying tournament for the ITA Conference Masters Championships. Teammates Amar Tahirovic and Adam Stavrakas will square off in the singles final, and Tahirovic and Brendan McDonald will battle a Boston University tandem in the championship match in doubles.
Â
The Bison senior trio remained unbeaten on the weekend. Tahirovic, ranked No. 43 in the ITA singles rankings and seeded No. 1 in this event, rolled in his two matches on Saturday at Lehigh. He defeated Navy's Jeffrey Etterbeek 6-1, 6-1 and Boston University's fourth-seeded Jakob Esterowitz 6-1, 6-2.
Â
Third-seeded Stavrakas downed Army's Jimin Jung 6-4, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and then gutted out a 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 win over second-seeded Herrick Legaspi of Navy in the semis.
Â
In doubles, Tahirovic and McDonald defeated Lehigh's Kosei Ogata and Sean Jaeger 8-4 in the semifinals. They will play Boston University's Esterowitz and Payton Jim On on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Â
Stavrakas and Tahirovic also met in the final of this tournament last year at West Point, with Tahirovic winning a thriller in a third-set tiebreaker. Their match on Sunday will follow the doubles final.
Â
This weekend's singles and doubles champions will go on to represent the Patriot League at the ITA Conference Masters in San Diego next month. That tournament serves as a qualifier for the NCAA Championships later in the fall.
