Bucknell Men's Crew Posts Strong Finish at 60th Head of the Charles Regatta
10/21/2025 1:36:00 PM | Men's Crew
This past weekend the Bison traveled to Boston, MA, for the 60th Head of the Charles Regatta. The weekend was the first real race of the year for the varsity 8, so despite strong fitness and good speed at practice, the crew entered the weekend with some uncertainty about their speed compared to rival crews. In the collegiate 8 event, the crew started directly behind Colby and caught them during the powerhouse stretch about five minutes into the race. Returning varsity 8 coxswain Tyler Leong took a move to take the lead from Colby so that the Bison could get the inside turn through the Weeks Bridge turn. As the crews moved through Weld Bridge and into the start of the Eliot Bridge turn, Bates caught up to the pack, creating a three boat race for the turn. The Bison were able to hold their slim margin over the Bobcats and maintain their advantage through the turn, ultimately pulling away from both crews through Eliot Bridge. The crew finished 15th overall, improving on last year's finish and finished as the second placed ACRA team in the event.

They finished 6th overall, and will look to improve next year! The 8 started 35th and finished 35th and came off the water in good spirits. It was a great weekend to be a Bison between the varsity 8's finish and the strong alumni presence in town.
Up next the Bison will travel to Rutgers University with the whole squad for a scrimmage on November 1st.
