Leclercq Repeats as Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week
10/20/2025 1:30:00 PM | Field Hockey
LEWISBURG, Pa.- Kira Leclercq continues to reach new heights in her decorated career and this past weekend against American and Towson reminded the field hockey community of her incredible talents. In acknowledgment, the conference voters recognized the senior with her second straight Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week award on Monday. Leclercq has won the honor four times in 2025 and eight times in her career. She tied Steph Graf (2006) for the most Defensive Player of the Week awards in a season.Â
Against American, she contributed a defensive save in the narrow 3-2 loss to the conference-leading Eagles. The defensive save enabled Bucknell to tie the game at 2-2 after the Bison fell behind 2-0. Leclercq's four defensive saves are second in the conference and her career collection of 25 are second in Bucknell history.Â
She unlocked a historic performance in the 4-2 victory over the CAA-leading Towson Tigers on Sunday with her second career hat trick. Her first goal gave Bucknell the 2-1 lead. Leclercq received the penalty corner opportunity and delivered a masterful shot.
Her next goal increased Bucknell's advantage to 3-1. The Bison were awarded a penalty stroke and Leclercq stepped up for the pressure-filled situation. She calmly shot into the narrow left-corner pocket past the lunging goalkeeper.Â
Leclercq completed the hat trick with another penalty stroke goal. This time, she went to the far right with her shot, confounding the opposing goalkeeper, and granting an insurance goal for the Bison.Â
The star defender now ties Boston's Caroline O'Brien for the conference lead in goals (10) and is second in points (25). She is two goals and two points away from breaking into the Bucknell top ten for both categories.Â
The Bison play two non-conference A-10 foes this week. Bucknell travels to Lock Haven on Wednesday for the I-80 Romp and then welcomes Davidson on Sunday. The Orange & Blue are 7-6 overall and 3-2 in Patriot League play.Â
