PRINCETON, N.J. – Amar Tahirovic was victorious in both singles and doubles on a busy day of action for the Bucknell men's tennis team in the main draw of the ITA Northeast Regional, hosted by Princeton.
Tahirovic and Brendan McDonald started the day with an 8-3 doubles win over Tom Sorin and Severin Risan of NJIT. The Bison duo will next face Sawyer Severance and Milan Markovits of Princeton on Saturday.
Tahirovic came back in the afternoon and routed Fordham's William Lokier 6-1, 6-3 in his first singles action of the tournament. Tahirovic will play Penn State's Reiya Hattori in the Round of 32 on Saturday. Hattori, who ousted McDonald in the second round of qualifying on Thursday, is still alive after a three-set win over Penn's Parashar Bharadwaj in his first match in the main draw.
Liam Kilmer won twice in prequalifying to earn one of the 64 spots in the main draw, but he had to retire due to injury after dropping the first set against Penn lefty Matthew Rutter.
Like Tahirovic, Adam Stavrakas earned a bye into the main draw, where he dropped a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 decision to Penn's Adam Bain.
Earlier in the day, Stavrakas and Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega lost a close 8-6 doubles match to Kush Anand and William Monahan of Villanova. Kilmer and Will Robinson dropped their doubles tilt 8-1 to Delaware's Tobey Lock and Euan Mackenzie.
