
Water Polo Sinks Mercyhurst, 21-9

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell (6-10, 3-4 MAWPC) defeated Mercyhurst (0-11, 0-7 MAWPC) 21-9 at Kinney Natatorium on Friday night for its second straight victory. The Bison offense dominated the proceedings with nine different players recording a goal. The Orange & Blue substituted at well and played three goalkeepers as part of the rout.
Aleksa Stefanovic led the Bison with five goals. The Bison went an efficient 5-of-6 on penalty shots. The three goakeepers, David Dumitru, Mateo Herrera, and Aiden Stone combined for 14 saves.
Bucknell sprinted to a 3-0 lead before the Lakers could tally a response. Mercyhurst would cut the Bison lead to within three goals four different times before a 5-0 Bison run ensured a suitable separation at 12-4. Jovan Udovicic scored two of Bucknell's five goals. Mercyhurst added a cage-finder before halftime for a 12-5 situation.
The Bison started sluggish in the third quarter but the Lakers could not capitalize. Bucknell rallied the forces and scored three goals, leading 15-7 entering the final stanza.
The Orange & Blue rolled to the 21-9 final score in the last period. Six different Bison tallied a goal as head coach John McBride tried various combinations. Mercyhurst answered with two goals. Kai Johnson scored the final tally for the 21-9 result.
