About the Meet
- The Bucknell swimming and diving squads have one final tuneup prior to the Patriot League Championships as American, Lafayette, Lehigh, Navy, and Shippensburg visit Kinney Natatorium for the Bison Invitational on Saturday. Those Patriot League foes will be right back here on Feb. 19-22 when Bucknell hosts the 2025 conference championships.
- Saturday's meet will be a non-scored competition and serve as an opportunity for some swimmers to continue to hone their primary events while others will try different events.
- Bucknell competed in dual meets against the other four Patriot League opponents earlier this season. Navy defeated both Bucknell teams, while the Bison swept, American, Lafayette, and Lehigh.
- Shippensburg is also prepping for its postseason. The Raiders will compete at the Division II PSAC Championships Feb. 17-20 in York, Pa.
- The Bison finished 6-2 in dual meets, including a 5-2 mark against Patriot League competition after cruising to a 218-82 win over Lehigh on Senior Day last week. Bucknell's two losses were both at the hands of service academies Navy and Army.
- Bucknell won 14 of the 16 events against the Mountain Hawks, including a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 200 breaststroke and three other 1-2-3 sweeps.
- Freshman Clara Renner's spectacular season continued against the Mountain Hawks, as she won three more events to finish unbeaten in duals this season. Renner captured the 1,000 free and swept both butterfly events for the second meet in a row. Renner now has 19 wins on the season, and in the 100 fly, her time of 55.43 was .06 under her personal best, leaving her in sixth place on Bucknell's all-time list.
- In addition to Renner's three wins, first-years Sofia Burns (100 back) and Sydney Jee (100 breast) also picked up victories.
- Rylie Giles, one of 10 Bison women honored before the meet on Senior Day, won the 200 and 500 freestyles, and Kyla Kelly was also a double winner in the 100 free and 200 IM. Liz Dokina also earned a Senior Day win in the 200 breast.
- Renner is a two-time Patriot League Swimmer of the Week, she now ranks in the top 10 in Bucknell history in eight different individual events, and she has 19 event wins this season. She holds the Patriot League's fastest times this season in the 500 free (4:48.55), 1000 free (10:00.62), 1650 free (16:33.07), and 400 IM (4:18.84).
- Kelly is next on the team with 12 wins, followed by Giles with six. A total of 16 different Bucknell swimmers have captured at least one event.
- Bucknell improved to 4-4 on the season after winning 15 of 16 events in a 227-70 win over Lehigh last week. Bucknell went 1-2-3 in six events and 1-2 in four others on the way to its fifth straight win over the Mountain Hawks.
- Justin DiSanto and Andy Dorsel both had huge days. After being honored before the meet on Senior Day, both won two individual events, and DiSanto also swam legs on both winning relays. Alex Crossing captured both distance free events, and Jack Krug swept the two diving events, posting an impressive PR on the 3-meter board.
- Krug led 1-2-3 finishes in both diving events. On the 1-meter board, his winning mark of 281.33 was a mere .37 off his personal best. Later, his 307.95 in the 3-meter competition nudged him past teammate Jackson Vinarub for the No. 2 spot in team history. Vinarub tallied a 307.80 in the season-opener against Boston University in October.
- The all-senior foursome of Nick Shopis, DiSanto, Ed Park, and Chris Kopac won the 400-yard freestyle relay to put an exclamation point on the impressive performance.
- Kopac and Dorsel lead the team with seven individual wins on the season, followed by Crossing with five.
