Men's Soccer Falls 3-0 to Saint Francis; Program Celebrates 1970s-Era Teams

LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison men's soccer team (2-2) dropped its second-straight game falling 3-0 to the visiting San Francis Red Flash (2-3) Saturday night. The Bison were nearly even (9-8) with SFU on shots but none of the Orange & Blue's attempts found the goal.

Bucknell celebrated its 1970s-era teams during the weekend. 20+ alums from the 1970s returned and were honored with a pre-game ceremony.

Saint Francis scored its first goal in the 20th minute. Joschi Schelb played the ball ahead to Fabian Wagner. Bucknell goalie Freddie Lapworth came out from the net to stop the proceedings but Wagner dodged him and scored the tally.

Schelb scored a goal of his own in the 40th minute. The ball was kicked around in Bucknell's territory and SFU's Mikey Walenchok collected the sphere. He provided a short pass among the chaos to Schelb who slammed it home past Lapworth.

The second half was mostly quiet except for fouls. The Red Flash added an insurance goal in the 77th minute. Brennan Parker sent in a cross from near the right side penalty corner to a waiting Rodrigo Mendes, who was stationed point blank in from the goal. His kick sent the ball careening into goal.

Bucknell opens Patriot League play next Saturday versus the Navy Midshipmen.
